I need some help in deciding which helicopter to get. I started out with the E-Flite cp blade and can hover and move around. I am not into 3D flying, but want a helicopter I can just fly. Can some one tell me, should I get a Trex or x400. This would be my first helicopter I ever built. I need some advice from my fellow Runryders. Also if some has a Trex and x400 can you post your thoughts.

Hi,

The TREX was introduced to the market first then the X400 followed. From experience and what I have seen, the X400 has improved on the TREX.

For more detailed comparisons you should visit trextuning.com or x400tuning.com, they have a comparison chart.

I bought the x400 but should have waited and gotten the 450xl ccpm version....actually I am buying the 450xl later this week. I like my x400 but currently I don't have local parts support. However I just bought some metal upgrades for my x400 online.

So to sum up...from now on...I would buy an rc item based on the following criteria,

local parts support - I live within about 30 mins of a few LHS
popularity - when in rome do what the romans do
performance - why spend money on something that is subpar
price - okay I didn't win the lotto
vendor - brand name probably means good support
research - i hate being a beta tester

just my 2 cents.

which heli

pays your money and takes your choice - TREX is plastic - X400 is metal (mainly) on the airframe - X400 is tougher and more stable

i had the trex 450x model
then got hold of the x400
i no nothing about the later trex models
the trex was a pain to build you had lots of ajustments to make in the build just to get it to fly ok
the x 400 will fly out of the box
you can use trex parts for the x400
and x400 parts for the trex
NOT ALL THE PARTS
there are some good points and bad points for each model
the x400 metal upgrades that have now come out are alot cheaper than when the trex upgrades where coming out
the trex is a very good model to fly
the build took about 9 hrs as there was alot of problems
it took 2 days to get it setup just for a hover
the x400 took 3 hrs to build and was in a steady hover in 4-5mins
now it may have been that i learnt alot from the trex build
but after all that i would say that with parts just a pc away
read as much as possible on the 2 then make up your mind
dont go and get the full kit with everything for you to fly
read up on what esc /motor/gyro/li-po packs and servos to use
get this wright and you will not be paying out for another motor/gyro etc later
upgrades keep the model as is
save your money for spare parts as you will need them
then when you can hover and forword flight go for the upgrades
and if you have not got one get a sim
it will save you a load of cash

Came back from 2 LHS and guess what they are now carrying the x400 and spare parts are coming soon as well. Yipee...now I can get my x400 flying and next week my Trex 450XL CCPM arrives...ahhh life is good. Plus I love all that bling stuff for the x400 not that it will help with my flying skills but it sure looks good.

Cheers,

Gord.

gwong,

You seem to be one of only a few people lucky enough to
have both the x400 and the Trex XL ccpm as part of their fleet.
When you get time to fly both, give us all a rundown on how you
think they compare. I'm sure many would be interested....

Hi DC4,

Thanks, would love to post a report when I get my T-Rex, supposed to be here this week, however I am eyeing the SE version...cost more but I think it's worth the extra money. I am also waiting for the Swift 16 to hit my LHS as well. I may sell the X400 as currently I don't have local parts support.

bottom line which heli, T-Rex or X400 has the cheaper crash parts and also the cheaper main frames?. I don't know why they went to the bother of putting serial numbers on the metal frames , that is an added exspense. i am guessing if the metal frames have to be replaced they will have diff. serial numbers. so which is going to be cheaper to rebuild?

Torque,

The x400 is the cheapest to repair.
