Hey !

I have now flown 10 full tanks without any problems at all. I just want to let you all know that this model has been overlooked in the Vario programme.

And the sound is so nice withhout getting the tinitus ...

I know what you mean

I fly a Kalt in 4 stroke and its just so different and quiet. I did consider getting the Boxer but at the cost, the Vario Alouette II in benzin won out

Performance

Sounds Great !!!

Is your vario boxer "as is" or have you done upgrades?
Do you have discovered any negative [engine] issues?

I'm considering to buy a Sky Fox Boxer or Benzin Trainer and would extremely appreciate your feedback.

Thanks - Surri

Surri !

With respect to both the engine and heli, both are pure standard with the recomended double mufflers. It is extremely quiet and I have tried to lean it out several times without overheating. The crankcaseventilation is the original one on the rear under side of the crankcase - meaning in a upper position on the Vario Boxer. The reason why I mention this is if you take a look at the German Vario site on specific the Boxer page, a customer has moved the location to just behind the front bearing - meaning in a much lower position for ventilation. I am not sure what the aim should be, but could reduce the amount of oil escaping from the front bearing thereby reducing overall oiling of the whole cooling duct.

Anyway it runs super without modification, but I use an electronic dual glowdriver from idle to aprox 35 % throttle to stabilize idle, so it runs even more smooth.

Regards

Bang68: I am curious, what head speed are you getting? I too have a boxer and have put a longer tail on it so I can run longer blades, I am in the process of installing a 25mm boom on it and will be able to fly 710 blades. The glow assist is a great idea to keep a nice idle. One side of my 160 seems to smoke more than the other indicating that it may be running a bit leaner than the other, I do not think it is valve clearance as I have checked and they are fine.. About the only thing I would like to see is a choice of mufflers as the twin cans have to hang back creating a lot of weight, it would be nice of there was some sort of can right behind the frame like the Benzin. Take care and keep on flying.

Boxer

At last... More Boxer owners are emerging!

It is a really nice system! Great sound, nice flying. I did have some engine problems though. Hopefully i solved them. The idea of the lower ventilation hole is that the engine should run smoother... I've tried it, but.. I couldn't get my engine to rev up anymore afterwards. Expenxive mistake. So, I would'n recommend it. Don't know what went wrong.

Anyway, enjoy the boxer!

Recently I've spotted a nice scale helicopter in the model helicopter world magazine a while ago (don't remember which issue) which was powered by a vario boxer. Think it was something like an agusta.

Thanks Peter, I just got in from flying mine after installing the 25mm boom, adding dual on board glow at idle, and installing 710 v-blades, I did not have a chance to tach the head so I am not sure of the head speed but it really seemed to like the 710's. mine weighs in at about 13.5 lbs. I cant emagine the motor running any smoother, mine is smooth as glass, I did extend my crank case vent throught the cooling schroud and sown to the bottom of the heli to help with getting the oil out of the heli and it works great. I will let you know when I have a chance to do some serious flying. Take Care!

Mark: Sorry to here you had to sell your ships, I know how difficult it can be, I sold several ships about 2 years ago including an A-Star fuse at a local auction. It is a great ship, I have the evolution mechanics ( with a Rossi as well ) still, you can see it in my gallery, I could not get the 3 blade head to track properly, It is the older style, I think I need to put some good digital servos in it and spend a little more time with it. I am in the process of moulding some scale fuel tanks for the Bell-47 out of fiberglass, as the origional plastic ones are cracking and basicly falling apart so we will see how these turn out. Anyhow thanks for the kind words and hopefully we will meet at a funfly now that I am getting back into flying..
Take care!
Sincerely, Brian

Hey, The A-Star show up Wed and its not too bad. One of the heads have a bent spindel and the other is new in the bag, blades a also new. The body will have to be repainted, not the best job I have seen.... The Rossi looks like it was only run a few times a the exhaust is fine. I call Joe to see if there was a replacement window set, there is and some sound mat for the inside. This weekend I will take some pics.
Thanks, Mark
