Scale Model RC Helicopters > Vario 412 Pics

I friend of mine (Gary) brought over his new 412 last night and we worked on some finishing details and took a few pictures. It looks pretty good, it is the Vario SkyFox mechanics with a Webra 91 engine.

The ship has the Vario 4 blade scale head with double bolt blade grips, full front cockpit w/pilot, redundant switches and battery systems. Very nice looking heli he got the paint codes from PHI so it's a dead match. Nice features like locking doors held good and tight when closed with magnets and mechanical latches, rear doors side, full lighting kit and sound proofing. He is running the Vario multiblade gyro on this ship.

Gary says it weighs 18 pounds. Feels about right. Should fly great with the 91 Webra.

Here's a few pics:

That is one good looking 412. Gary should be proud. Can't wait to see some shots of it flying.

As long as he does not let anyone else fly it, he should have it a long time.

Joe,

I know what you mean about Gary not letting anyone fly it.... *G*
BTW_ I trust you were able to read the decals that I sent you the second time around?

Naomi,

Webra does indeed make a Heim long crank version of the 91-P5 AAR. Cyberheli has them in stock.

Hi Raymond
No, but i sent them to a couple of people to see if they could, and they can't either. I have Corel Draw, but it looks like if you do not have Adobbe Illustrator, you cannot open the file.

Joe,

What about the PDF I made? You do have the free Adobe Acrobat don't you?? that should work as well.

Also, Mark Ryder had a similar problem and he went to Adobe's website and downloaded a 30 day eval of Illustrator (free).

I don't understand why your CorelDraw can't open the EPS decal files.

I want to help you out there Joe but I can't think of many more ways to get you this file.

Naomi, I think he's using a Zimmerman exhaust, I'm sure Stephen @ Cyberheli can help you find a pipe to fit that big fat Webra 91.

well, Gary dragged me out to the field late yesterday to get the maiden flight in on the 412.

As expected it flew great.. he's running the Vario multi-blade gyro on this one and it was something to watch, we stayed past sunset and Gary turned the lights on and he flew it some in the dark, it was pretty cool.

Here's a few pics:

More great shots! I liked the the night shots, made the 412 stand out. Think you can get a video of it? BTW , "dragged me out", who you trying to kid. You couldn't wait to get out there for the maiden flight.

Got the Hughes together and ran it up the other day. Didn't fly it, going to Brooks this weekend & couldn't chance hurting it before I get a chance to show it off. I'll send pics next week.

Paul,

I knew someone was going to call me on that one, it was a treat for sure to be there. Nobody had to drag me anywhere except to go home last night. The 412 looks great especially at night with all the running lights lit up. It will be in GA this weekend for the scale event.

I had planned on video tapeing it but my battery was totally dead, when I found out the battery was dead I didn't have time to charge and there is no electricity at that field so I blew it off and settled for digital pics.

Looking forward to seeing another Hughes... Send the pics.

BTW_ Gary tested out the ability of the rotor system to support an auto-rotation. It was pretty cool how he did it. He got the RPM's up to flight speed and while on the ground hit Throttle Hold, he said if he can punch the collective in and it lift off, then it will auto and this thing did it easily. You have to know Gary, he's an auto freak.... I've seen him auto that 4 blade Vario head on the bare SkyFox mechs and you'd think it was a Fury.... He says he's only running 8 degrees of pitch on top and -3 on bottom, head speed was around 1350 RPM. He's running the Vario 1640 blades and they produce serious lift.

These are beautiful pictures! As an owner of a Scalehouse 412, I want to pay my highest compliment! I also wish my Xcell setup could accomodate a cockpit like your Vario...

I just saw this machine today in Dalton, Ga. Not only did it look great, the pilot made it look very real in the air. Normally, I'm just a pod and boomer, but now I have a taste for scale....MD500 w/5 blade head!!!!

Congrats to Gary Saia, he took second in the 518 scale at Dalton, GA with the new 412... I guess it was worth the trip!

He'll be at Mt. Pleasant this weekend too, and I'll have to compete against him.... damn...
