Im wondering what I should get for a good set up for a newbie. I have flow just a little before and know the basics. Heres the only thing thing that might hinder what I get: I can only run 10cells as I have a 16x5v6 charger and it can only charge 10cells. I would like brushless, but I dont have to have it, and I would like it to be under 550$
Thanks,
-Wes

If you're talking about a complete setup, radio/battery/gyro/etc. for $550 - ain't gonna happen unless you're buying used & find a deal, to do it "right". The combo deal Hobby Lobby sells for around your budget would be very frustrating - a non-helicopter radio so you'd have to use mechanical mixing, and no gyro either isn't good.

Start off with a decent heli radio or you'll probably regret it later - it's not a lot more money & you can use it on anything else you end up wanting to fly. Setup is much simpler & easier using CCPM, and you need the heli radio for that - the stock swashplate uses 90 degree CCPM, make sure any radio you get can handle that mode.

I won't fly brushed motors anymore personally, there's no comparison once you make the switch - currently using a Mega 22/20/3H on 10 cells, about to switch to Lipo only because I'm about to stuff my Eco into a 21st Century Toys MD-500 body & I need to lower the weight.

Im going to stick brushed right now because as you said im getting a hitec eclipse 7...

Follow me here:
-Eclipse 7: 209$
-HS-81 (1): 17$
-HS-85 (3): 69$
-Pegasus-35: 42$
-GWS gyro: 38$
- subtract 20$ for towers instant 20$ or w/e
________________________________
350'ish $$

Then 50$ for a motor (the stocker) and another 170$ for the chassis and were at...
570$

I can do that, is that a good set up?

dont waste your money on the stock ikarus motor i always used team orion havoc motors (23 turn) after i fk'ed the stock motor 10 feet up. but i burned a load out when i switched to 10 cells. ive just been pointed to the hurricane speed 650 with a 14 tooth pinion on it with my 10 cells and is supposed to be awsome ill let you know when itry it.

im gonna try it first just out of curiosity (only costs a fiver too) but then i think im gonna go brushless

one word of warning though once you have learned to fly the eco youll have to do upgrading to ensure it grows with your ability... mine stands me a fortune now.

Rather than spending $90 on a brushed motor combo you can spend about $200 on a Mega 22/20/3H & Phoenix 45 combo - you'll end up going brushless sooner or later anyways

A better gyro (with heading hold) would help too, like a GY240 - $110.

I'd rather spend a bit more up front rather than replace things later, it's less frustrating in the long run. What you've got picked out will certainly fly though - note that the Eclipse 7 doesn't do 90 degree CCPM as a standard swashplate mode, you'll have to mix some channels to accomplish that (a search will turn up instruction on exactly how to do that).

Your list didn't include batteries - what did you have in mind? Brushed motors die fast with 10 cells, keep that in mind. But when you go brushless you'll want the extra power.

Finally - have you flown helicopters before? If not, the Eco really isn't the best choice - it'll get expensive quick. It's so darn fragile compared to most, that's why it's so light.

I flew a raptor... thats about it helio wise.

What should I get? I've seen the trex, it seemed to be easy to fly, but its all small... If anything I would like to go up to the logo's but there way to out of my price range.

I love my ECO 8, it flies extremely well, easy to hover - even for a beginner. But it's not a good beginner helicopter if you are not prepared to pay for some expensive parts. By expensive, I mean $20.00 main gears, $15.00 flybars, $20.00 booms, $60.00 rotor blades, etc.......

If you are willing to cough up for the parts and upgrades, its an excellent machine. Otherwise go with something else for now, get the ECO later. When I bought mine, I already had a bunch of equipment that would work to get it into the air, so I was slightly ahead for buying replacement parts.

The t-rexs may be small but my old man has one and its nearly all he flies he hardly ever takes the rappy out anymore.

also the parts for the t-rex are dirt cheap in comparison to the eco.
