I can tell you from experience that a CNC tail box is not needed except for the Bling factor. The current tail box(rc-helitech not the stock one) is very strong and well made.

I have the microheli metal tail box on it and it sure looks great, Going to a plastic box again makes me sad but belt drive outweighs that.
but bling would be a nice option

You should be able to use that MH tail ase with the belt kit no problem. Just order the parts separate.

The only problem would be the tension at the tailbox, how would you do that with a different tail box from the one that comes with the beltdrive?

Can the MH tailbox be moved on the boom at all?
Tension can be done at the front of the boom, I don't know how well this will hold up as it's only held by the two grub screws.
If this system works with the MH unit, I don't see much of a need to create my own. Time will tell !!! The only information I need is the distance between bearings on the HM unit to set the length of the tail pulley. It could easily be sanded if too long or add a washer if too short. The tail pulley is currently glued to the shaft, but I am not sure how well I like that system.

I had a MH tail case on my shoguns when they first came out. You can move the tail case, I think it is still a "squeeze" setup design.

Rc-heliltechs tail boox is pretty cool and i don't think you could break it even if you pulled a tail in "lawn dart" .

The plastic tail pulleys work very well. The heliworkz.com shogun belt kits use shrink tubing to hold the plastic pulley to the tail shaft and I never thought it would work and it did for over a year. The 3D pro uses a larger tail shaft and a little CA believe it or not holds it to the point that you have to drive it off.

A lot of people will be happy with this belt kit. I land and take off in grass all the time and never have to worry about the tail as an issue.

The website is now open to pre-orders, I have a solid design and it's time to release it. I am waiting on some of the last parts to arive so that I can assemble the kits. I am also finishing up the docs for assembly, not difficult !
I have also priced this kit very low, I hope this helps more people get into Belt Drive and really start to enjoy the 3DPRO.

You can twist the belt the other direction and flip the tailbox to change the side the tail blades are on as per another thread running. It appears the MH tailbox should work, but will require the bearing area to be drilled out to make room for the belt. I will make a Bling version shortly with an alum main plate and an alum tail box and plan to offer an upgrade for those that want to switch from the stock plastic version.

By the way if the hole is to small for the MH cnc box how can i change that? I hate to put it aside since it was 56 bucks for the darn thing?!?!

Upperking, you will have to do what Im going to do, and that is, drill the Microheli case out to the same size hole as the booms outside diameter. Use a vice or even better if you have access, a drill press.
Im ordering the complete belt kit with gearbox, plus a spare pulley to use with the Microheli case. Getting the hole kit just incase it all go's pear shaped with drilling out the case lol.

If you bling it, they will come :D

I have great regret in putting this message up.
My ship date is going to be delayed a week or two. I have the machined parts done, and in the process of assembling the parts and working some basic instructions.
My big hang up is getting the idler pulleys in from overseas, It appears being a new account my order got stuck in limbo as they have not shipped yet. They say it will be shipped next week sometime.

I am using Standard ARK x-400 idler pulleys, I have a few options available.

1) Wait for the parts to arrive.
2) I can ship the kit with-out the pulleys mid week , only helpfull if you have access to these pulleys. I will ship you extra pulleys when I get them. I will cover the shipping for domestic customers.
3) Refund your money.

I am hoping everyone is willing to wait a few more weeks, but also don't want to sound like the manufactor of these Heli's.

i believe the helimax mx400 is just a rebranded ark x400. if so, then tower says they have them in stock:

idler pulleys

rcracer: maybe you can mic one of your pulleys (if you have any left) and verify tower's specs are the same as what your using.

[edit] if anyone orders these on their own to try and get the kit earlier, you need 2 pulleys.
