Thanks to the testing there will be a few improvements to the design to reduce a few potential problems.

The boom mount will be thinker to allow better bite with the grub screws, the guide pulleys screws will be recessed to allow use of an gyro plate. The back end of the mount will also be slightly larger to allow the gyro to be mounted directly if wanted. In regards to the grubs screws we are looking at ways of using a pinch clamp system, however cost is an issue and I don't want to over engineer this.

For the stock setup the belt will be a 380 tooth belt, with this setup the boom is fully seated in the mount and the tailbox is most of the way forward as well.
The Stock setup adds approx .600" to the otherall length, I am not sure if this will allow the longer blades.

The tailbox still needs some minor work for the pivot arm. The stock system had a small extension on the box to support the back side of the pivot arm. I would like to do away with that but am not sure at the moment.

Extended Version:
It would be very simple to use the shogun boom for the extended length version, I have the proper belts and parts to mod that one. However this does increase the diameter and some of the HB parts will not fit on if that matters.

In regards to Arrow shafts, I see many different sizes (Diameters) you have given me a brand is there a number I need to get? The boom is an area I want to reduce the cost.

In regards to cost, I am working on this. The guide pulleys and much of the hardware is purchased, I am working to get better prices or sources. For a ballpark price I am looking around $50.00 for a stock kit depending on the qty's and parts I get this might change.

Hi Rcracer
As far as the arrow shafts go, for a stock HB size, I think you would be looking at a 2012 size shaft, and for the Shogun, I heard from a post on RR that a 2213 is the same as stock. Dont quote me on these, but Im pretty sure.
If you stop at any good archery store with these numbers, they will most likely give you a funny look for your application, but will let you try the size.
The type of shaft you want is called the Easton XX78 Super Slam.
These are rated to 100'000 PSI, yes that number is correct
I would explain how the shaft sizing works, but have brain fade at the moment lol, kinda late here.
You can also get shafts in very high quality carbon from Easton.
I would recommend the Lightspeed or Redline, both from Easton.
Just bear in mind that the carbon shafts will not have a way cool natural carbon finish as in the long term for an outdoor sport they are not UV stable.
Hope this helps

If you bling it, they will come :D

hi
one problem with arrow shafting is most places only sell them by the dozen

By the dozen!!! EEEKKKKK
What kind of ripoff place does that?
I have been able to buy however many I wanted, so long as they had stock of what I was after. If they have to order them for you, well thats a different story and understandable.
Let me know how you get on

If you bling it, they will come :D

i'd say i have the first video of a test flight. but, im hesitant to call this a 'flight'. anyway, here's the mods in action:

coupla drops from low altitude on the rcracer skids. held up just fine.

the beltdrive tail seems to hold very well with a gy401. this mod uses the rcracer boom mount, and tailbox. i flew an entire pack with this setup (the 'true' maiden flight) before i turned on the camera. i guess my thumbs are camerashy. it's really hard to fly and keep the heli in frame.

without further ado: the video

i think the purple blade grips are next up on the plate....both stock ones snapped on the curb, as you will hear

if it ain't broke…break it.

Cool! If you come up with the extended version I would be interested. Heck, I would be happy with the normal one really. Any idea when they will be available. That gear looks like a big improvement also.

Cudaboy: Some nice product testing there. The stock gear would have definately broke in the 9' landing. What caused the crash at the end of the video and what broke? I noticed it said that was the end of testing so I assume something broke.

rcmike: ya, i broke both stock tailgrips on the curb.

upon reflection, i had just changed the pitch slider prior to those flights. i dont remember lubricating the shaft.

after i got it all buttoned up with new grips i noticed there was considerable binding. i think the tailslider stuck on me. as you saw it pretty ungracefully spun into the pavement

if it ain't broke…break it.

Ah, I see. I was hoping it wasn't part of the conversion that broke or caused the crash.

dont think its anything to do with the mod. but, i havent had much time to tinker with it aside from just replacing the tail grips. like i said earlier, i hovered an entire pack--doing quick 1/4, 1/2 and full piros before i turned on the camera and the tail was holding fine.

now that i think about it, i dont think i took the 401 out of HH mode. i should take it out and see how the tail holds on its own.

i did stop after that 1st pack and inspected the mod. the front gear/boom mount had zero issues.

the tailbox on the stock 3dpro boom was rubbing a little on the top as it entered the boom. so, the tailbox was a little peppered with black. and the edges of the belt were visibly worn a bit. i think rcracer has some ideas for remedying that. but, i didnt feel any heat on the tailbox like it was getting too hot from friction. i think its a minor rub that can easily be worked out.

i think i'll be upgrading to genovia's CF pushrod mod on the tail before another flight. i've never liked how flimsy that thing is. i'm not blaming the crash on the pushrod. just something i'd rather address sooner than later.

when i put away the 3dpro the tail was still binding. so, there's some work afoot before any more video shows up.

if it ain't broke…break it.

Little update:

400DF w/ 15t pinion arrived from justgofly.com (thanks Vinnie). First of all what a cool little motor. Its very small but it does pack a punch. AUW is 515g with a phx25 and TP 3s1p 2100 pro lite extended boom with 305mm trex blades. The weight can go much lower with 3s1p 1320.

The belt drive is no longer a issue to worry about. It runs so smooth and is so quiet. There is no tail issue anymore, its bulletproof, LOL!!!

GY240 gain set close to 75% in HH and the tail is rock solid using the sloppy HS50.

The 400DF will take as much pitch as you can throw at it without bogging. The little heli gets up and out of sight faster than is needed. I'l start some loops, rolls and flips once i get the CNC blades grips so I can get equal +/- pitch range.

Looking forward to trying the stock blades and stock boom.

This is finally a cool little heli to fly.

It sure gets small fast

I'll get flight times tonight.

Good to hear! I cut the links on the head back a little so I could shorten them more and get more negative pitch. I can get +10/-10 with the stock grips that way. I was wondering what size motor would be necessary with the longer blades. I am glad to see the 400DF works well.

My HS 50 case came apart in flight (had it taped to) and down went the heli.

Exactly which head links did you shorten?

The short ones that go to the blade grips. Before I could get plenty of positive but not much negative. I cut off some of the links and a little off of the rods so they would be shorter.

i hear this all the time. you'd think hitec would do something about that. i dont run an hs-50, but that'd torque me off pretty bad. maybe tiewrap the sucker around the boom? CA the case on? big piece of shrinkwrap around the case?

tough luck

Do you have a rough idea when this conversion kit will be avalible.
I havent had any problems the the gears, its just that the gearbox
wants to turn on the shaft. I have what I think was the new version
with the screw that indexs the gearbox but the screw keeps backing
out. This kit looks like it would solve the problem.
