Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > JR Vigor tail on Raptor 50, Heck yeah!!!

I read a while ago about the ability to put the JR tail rotor on a Raptor, to primarily give it thrust bearings, a better disc area, and a steel hub.
Recently, I won an complete hub with bearings and grips on E-bay, making this mod financially feasable for me. I just got done assembling it, and wow am I impressed! Very smooth and no slop! I can't wait to try this baby out!

For anyone else curious, here's the part numbers..

Tail Pitch Link JRP960056 $2.63

Tail Pitch Plate JRP960057 $2.63

Tail rotor hub JRP960470 $57.00

Have you flown it yet? I took mine off as I couldn't get enough pitch out of the tail blades to counter-act the tourque of a .91 size engine. I think this was originally done to a Raptor 60 and you could get by with a little less pitch. I went to the TT metal rotor hub with new bearings and new blade grips. It works flawlessly. With little to no play. So if anyone is still interested in this upgrade I have a almost new flown 1 tank Vigor CS tail hub assembly for sale.

I have not flown it yet.
It seems to have just as much throw on the slider as the original pieces.
I saw this idea at Rick's as well, done to a Raptor 60. I imagine it will work really well on my Raptor 50.
You have some really good pictures of the items in the thread you referenced!

barracudahockey:

I have not done it nor i'm interested, But I imagine that if you are going to do it, you need ALL the parts. $62.26 not $57. That is the price of using Vigor parts. That is why I do not have one.

And what is wrong with the Raptor part in the first place? I had one hub fail on me and I KNOW it was MY fault. I overtigtened the bolt while assembling it and decided to fly the heli anyway. After that I flew for the rest of the season last year and the whole seaon this year with no problems. R70 and R50 both, no problems.

Yea I know but the other parts are cheap.

I've had 2 fail so far. I went to the pv0499 sus machined hub and haven't had a problem since but its only been about 2 gallons.

Greg Just Do It!

Try it out on your 50 I think you will like it!,
I had it on my R60 when I started out with Heli's 5yrs ago and it worked way better than the stock R60 part!!!

I would like to know if anyone else tried it out on thier R90 & had the same problems as you ?

Her's what I think may have happend to Greg. I noticed that there are different brass sliders on the Raptors at my field. I suspect some of them are a different dimension, and are thicker at the gearbox end. This would certainly limit how much travel the slider has, and affect how much tail pitch is available.

I own both a 50 and a 60 sized Raptor and i can tell you that the 30/50 brass slider is thicker on the gearbox side. the 60/90 slider is thinner.

you can get away flying one on the other but I will not experiment to see how long. I tried the thick one on my 60 and it flew for a while until my parts in backorder arrived just a few days later.

It is a possibility.

My observations with the brass slider are limited to Raptor 30/50's
I suspect some aftermarket ones are different. I first noticed it when I was tring to help a fellow flyer make an adjustment, and I grabbed my trusty 7mm wrench for the slider and it was too big! This is when I noticed that is was also thinner on the gearbox side. Unless this guy had a R60/90 slider.

The R90's do use a different tail pitch brass slider. It's thinner, does not inhibit the tail pitch available.
