DO NOT GET THE DRAGONFLY!

This my first post; and how appropriate, since I have first-hand knowledge on both of these as a newbee of only 4 weeks in RC Helis, no time in planes either.

I got a Dragonfly online and while waiting for it to arrive, I read everything I could find on e-helis, got so anxious, and went out and bought a Blade CP from HobbyTownUSA.

Spent the next three days/nights very slowly working the controls - on the ground only.

By the time the Dragonfly arrived, I was hovering the BCP w/ training gear for half-batt or so. Figured I'd give the Dragonfly a try since I paid for it....no such luck. Gave it two batts worth of flight time, and all I did was crash and loose parts. Also, fit and finish was crap on it, instructions terrible, yada, yada, yada.

If I had had patience and waited on the Dragonfly and never bought the BCP, I'd have given up on RC Helis; whereas now, I'm launching the BCP over 40ft up, can hover in my kitchen as long as I want, fly side-in, working on nose-in, etc. Also, haven't been on trainers in a week 1/2.

And...the BCP has given me the desire to only go and get a Gas Heli in the very near future.

BUY A BLADE CP...support is excellent, parts are readily available, and it actually flies!

I flew gas heli's many years ago, both a Schluter Heliboy and Helibaby. Did a lot of crashing too. I've been away from heli's for many years, but due to many years of racing R/C electric powered cars and much online and magazine research, I decided that a small, electric powered heli was reasonable. The benefits were many, including relatively low cost, small space requirements, quiet, etc. The Blade CP seemed to offer the best combination of features and benefits. The purchase was made from my local hobby shop. They also stock a good spectrum of Blade replacement parts. The fact that they sell the Blades as soon as they come through the door also says a lot about the machine. I've lost count of the battery packs that I've run through the machine. I've had one crash, resulting in the loss of one set of main rotor blades and a tail rotor. I'm hovering in my large kitchen and having a ball. And no matter how nasty our New England winter might become this year, I'll still be enjoying my Blade CP.

I am still new to this .. but ...

The BCP is a great little Heli ... But I hate to say it, it is not great for learning on. none of the Micro heli are great to learn on ... But if you dont want to spend the money on something bigger, the BCP is the way to go. Low initial cost and parts are cheap compared to larger heli. Plus you dont have to worry about setup. Overall it will get you learning quickly. I went with it for my 1st heli and have no regrets about it. Since then I picked up and built a Trex450XL(CDE) and now I put about 75% of my time on the Trex. I actually think my skills have decreased due to the Trex being some much easier to fly.

kdk3187 -

You sound a lot like me .. You will not regret getting a larger bird. It is amazing what a small increase in size of the heli will do to how well it handles (as long as it isnt setup poorly).

JesDer,

The local 3D pro saw me flying my BCP in the hobby shop, and talked me into going gas. He said I flew pretty good and would only benefit from the jump.

I went ahead and bought a JR XP8103 Heli radio/servo kit and the parts to "hack" my BCP...in prep for gas. You know getting used to setting up curves, etc. Big time improvement, made the little Blade so much more responsive.

I'm getting a Raptor 50 SE. Picking up the first few parts tomorrow.

I'll still keep my BCP as a "trainer," foul weather indoor flyer, and take-on-trips "distractor."
