e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > cdrom blade

i am a person that refuses to leave well enough alone. when i first got the blade i was a little dissapointed i have been flying planes for 5 years and have been praticing on heli sims for the past six months. the blade does not fly like the sims. you have to spend most of your time adjusting the proport settings and then after you get it just right you battery voltage drops and its spins again. so i said screw it.the first thing that i did was set up my eclipse7 to fly the blade. this worked out well but it wasn't enough. i installed the aero enhancement kit with a 3s1320, this was better but i'm not done yet i wanted more. i ordered a walkera gyro from hobby japan and a heli mount from go brushless . i've already spent 220 on the heli and have already set aside half of the equiptment i was trying to do this a cheaply as possible. besides the look on people's faces when you tell them that its a cdrom motor and not an expensive brushless is priceless. so i take the heli completely apart and start from the ground up. equiptment: 11t 24g cdrom with heli mount, cc10,pixi 7p, walkera gyro, gws dd mod with smart-rc's dd tail upgrade and a 3 x 3 prop. i pulled the 10t pinion off of the stock motor and installed it on the gb heli shaft (by the way if you do try this please order the strongrcmotors can with set screw collar, it allows you to remove the shaft without removing the pinion and makes adjustment alot easier) wound my motor and installed it nice fit. the reason that i used the stock pinion is that i initally used a pinion from a eflite 400 but the gear mesh was terrible loads of noise. i cut a piece os thin abs and mounted it on the tail for a gyro mount and straped the gyro on with velcro, i'd seen some place that double sided foam tape causes tail wag. i installed the rest of the parts except the blades and i set it on the table and stopped. what am i doing, i'll spin it up first then think about that. i cleared the kids out of the room and said a prayer, plugged in the battery and raised the throttle. its moving more speed ... ping. i just threw the head shear pin. i like this. put in another bend it a little set my t curve for 0 45 95 95 95 and start it up again. half throttle i'm grinning like a kid i haven't heard a sound this lovely before ....ping. another pin. i replaced the center hub pin is tight now. put on the blades spool it up i'm laughing like a mad scientist now. i set up the gyro and set the pitch and throttle curves and head outside. a little over half throttle and i'm hovering nearly hands off and smooth.i go to 3/4 throttle to switch to idle up and zoom my heli is climbing like a rocket. i bring it back down and land without a problem except my knees are shaking a little. i usually hover at half throttle to preserve resolution but i going to have to switch back to 3/4 hover so my norm and idle curves match after half stick. i'm sorry this is so long but i just wanted to say my piece. 10 dollar cdrom go figure.

Use 1 or 1.5mm ( cant remember which - just take an orginal pin with to the hardware store) hardended drill bits for your pins - no more snapping or bending! your machine sounds awesome - pics? What speed controller are you using and did you use barkingspider's wiring system?

i'm using a cc10 esc now but i dont have much headroom i'm thinking about switching to my 25. if i were thinking in the beginning i could have built this for around the same price as the blade

i dont know who barkingspider is i just disabled the bec on the pixie 7p and soldered both battery wires together to a jst connector.

now that i know that it works i may pull the reciever out of the 4 in 1 and use it , at lease that way i can say that i did mod something

I would think you should have plenty of headroom on that CC10, unless it is the BEC you are worried about. With a good CDROM motor on 11.1v, I bet you are only pulling 3-4 amps.

A lot of people are flying Trex on CC10 with CDrom motors - you are probably good to go.

Caution - reading this thread may have you salivating. The pics are since gone, but the words are useful. Since this Trex topic started, a lot more work has been done on lightweight Trexes. Consider a Blade CP on 1100mah 3s lipo weighs 332 grams...

Andramalech,Very Cool. I have a Blade CP. Do you think it is possible to use brushless main motor and stock trans, 4 in 1 and every thing else?

My other trans. does not support CCPM.
Thanks

i believe so. the mixing is done in the transmitter, if you pull the reciever out of the 4 in 1 and add your own speed controllers and gyro i believe that it could be done

It can be done using your own reciever and brushless controler but u can still use the gyro in the 4 in 1 no need to add a diff gyro
