| Bluntly, the Trex has become THE hot new mini platform for heli's. Its got several incarnations to where it has the bugs worked out of it, its actually fun and easy to build and work on it, it has a few different flavors, all priced right, spares are readily available and priced right. Most of all, its a hardy little beast that can either be set-up for mild flying or can be bling-bling'ed to blow away a nitro Raptor (seen those Neu motor and 4s videos?). Sunday flyer to competition level guys all find a set-up with the Trex. That's why its taking over.
I have one on the shelf, BUT...
for me, I've always liked the Hornets. I'm finding them used in good condition for dirt cheap. Usually I can get a heli with some electronics, sell off the electronics (or use the electronics), if I figure out my purchase price, the heli itself is pretty close to "free" in the deal. There's no market for them. A year or two ago, people were pouring time and money into them, now, they want to sell these cool little micros and all go buy Trex's. Did all the Hornets currently flying all of a sudden pass their expiration date? NO. Still a GREAT little machine for those who take the time to learn it and learn how to fly it. It will fly in smaller fields, and have just as much punch and 3d capability as something far heavier and more costly. Plus, I know some places to get real reasonable parts (the parts cost killed a LOT of the enthusiasm for the heli), plus how to make mods to make it fly well and avoid many of the common misshaps.
What does this have to do with the Eco? Well, if you like a heli, and it falls out of favor, that's the time to look to pick up parts/spares/other additions to the heli at bargain deals, NOT sell out of it. You've got a proven heli, like what it does, STICK WITH IT. Who cares what everyone else is flying? |
