Hey Tom

on my tail I have ball linked the CF rod to the linkage arm on the rotor this improved my tail massivly but sometimes it still lost itself for a bit. I made an ali one and its been spot on since i put it down to there being some twist in the arm i found since i ball linked it. it now works fantastic just need a bit more power in but thatll be sorted by the end of the week.

hope this helps a little.

I just havent got the ali pitch compensator to make the head complete but probably wont bother. The bearings in the head are all roller bearings but the ones that count are those that hold the blade holders on the spindle. Plain bearings are not designed to take high head loads and could break but I never actually had it happen to me on the main blades, I have had it happen on the tail though so I think its important that they are done, try Boca Bearings order no F2-6, this may actually solve the slight wag you are getting it certainly made a difference for me. The 9254 works great as it is a direct match for the 401, it has been getting a bit of bad press lately though but no probs for me. If the tail wags every once in a while I wouldnt really worry about it, its a mechanical/electronic system working against gravity, wind, friction etc, it will glitch now and then.

I havent been flying the ECO for that long but put it through the mill in the meantime and had the inevitable crashes, the ikarus blades are not that good they break soon as look at them, I have used MAH and SAB blades on other helis and they work great, are light and strong and well balanced out of the packet. I had to do a fair bit of work on the ikarus blades to balance them.

The KS paddles are available from fxaeromodels.com (KSJ328P), they are heavier than the stock and have a much bigger surface area. I threaded the stock bar with an M3x0.5 die (trim off the flybar at the fixing hole first). The standard paddles are fine these just increase roll rates etc.

This forum is fantastic for picking up hints and tips and I certainly wouldnt have picked up on some of the stuff I have mentioned here without generous help from other members, spend some time looking through the threads it is worth it.

I had some 3mm brass tube with a .5m wall lying around, any form of tube with these dimensions will do just cut a piece with the 4mm root size for each blade, I think its worth it as the SAB blades are really solid, tried a couple of others that just werent as good

Do you have any ides where ill be able to get some of the brass tube from as i really fancy getting some sab blades as they have a really good name for themselves.

sorry to be a pain

I got mine from a local hobby shop most good hobby shops sell a variety of tubing, it doesnt have to be brass of course, you could try Greenweld Hobbies -

http://www.greenweld.co.uk/acatalog/Shop_Tube_187.html

go for the thinwall stuff, for the price you might as well buy both varieties plus a few other bits always handy (this is why I am penniless, end up spending a fortune on brass bits! oh well)

I have used SAB blades on my smaller helicopters as well as bigger stuff, excellent build quality and tough. I like the tail blades as they are white with a black strip, doesnt work for everyone but its my preference for sighting

I am trying to switch over to white blades everyone i know uses them so there must be a reason for it.

personally i like to use black as i dont like to see the blades toomuch i like to be able to focus on the nose of the heli as much as possible as this is more or less the only reference point i use unless i cant see it for any reason or im landing in which case i tent to look at the skids just to make sure its level.

I know sab blades are exceptional quality other than the tail power issue i think that the main blades are about the only other area i will be able to improve the heli and now thats its over a grand of flying pieces waiting to be put into a bag i dont see why i should skimp out on them.

oh I am going to stick a different flybar and paddles on it too when ive tested the latest and greatest mods but well see how it goes.

cheers for your help anyway

I figured out the pinion myself. Here is the formula. The one in the eco 8 manual is wrong.

Head speed=(voltage*KV*pinion)/spur gear

1498.5=(11.1*1620*15)/180

You'll only get about 80% of the headspeed calculated that way. The number calculated doesn't take into account the loading on the motor.

i agree with bret.

I always aim for an rpm of about 70% of the tatal speed nowadays that way you should have enough steam in the motor to push through resistance you will get when upping the pitch.

id go for a 19T.
with a throttle curve of something like 70% @ 0 Degrees 77% @ 4.5 degrees and 90% @ 9 degrees.

i think thats somewhere near where mine is

hope this helps.

Eco metal headblock

Is there any place that sells just the metal hub for the eco. Fxaeromodels sells every part for the head but the hub, i just need the hub and the seesaw arm to stiffen up the head and $140 seems a little much for a $200 heli.

Hey DO,

I have never sen just that for sale anywhere. You might try a "wanted" add here and on other forums looking for that piece. Maybe someone has crashed enough and has that piece extra!?! Just a thought.

Hi,

Midland Helicopters sells them over here in the UK as a seperate item - http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/a...prs_Eco816.html

You might still be better off getting the complete head as the seperate parts will not come with the matched bearings

Cheers, Ken

I had a pair of aluminium frames on my eco ("Kompaktmechanik" from Krockenberger with short rotor shaft).
They were very good, but if they get deformed, you cant repair them.

Actually Johannes those frames look superb, havent seen them before they look excellent quality as does the matching undercarriage, if my homemade Carbon dont stand up I will give them a try.

Check them out -

Especially with the landing gear and the red tail boom they look very good, but this stuff isn't very cheap

Noticed some really good carbon frames after I had started my project on RcHelibits website - http://www.rchelibits.co.uk/catalog...d3f906c647c51de so if you dont want to go to the trouble of making your own these are also made of 1.5mm Carbon and look to have strength in all the right places

Went to the site you gave. I've tried contacting these peeps by email many times over the last few days and they just don't answer. Ignorant or what? Trouble is I like the look of their carbon frames and haven't seen anything like those elsewhere. Have they got site problems?

Is the direct buy capability not available to you ?

Cheers, Ken
