Put in 4 more flights on it today. Responce is awesome compared to the factory version. Maybe Ikarus should use my design in the future.

Works good with a few mods. Don't use there motor as it is a dog.
I've been using the E-flight .15 motor with the 22 tooth pinion, and a 4 cell Thunderpower 2100mah.
The .15 is a 10 turn motor which has plenty of power and torque it's not a crazy power set up because you can't run the head speed above 2300rpm or 2400rpm max. Reason being is the tail gear ratio is to low at 4 to 1.
Also don't go above like 80% on the gov. mode. Like I mentioned before head speed is critical as if you go above 2300rpm you'll run into some crazy problems with the tail.
With this set up you can fly backwards inverted with no problem.
I'm also using a 401 gyro with the high speed Airtronics servo on the tail.
The mods done are metal head and swashplate, and a Trex aluminum brackets on the fly bar. You cut off the stock plastic nipple ends that the fly bar goes through slide those against the metal Trex parts and use wheel collars to hold them in place. You also have to make up some plastic spacers for the middle part using Sullivan stuff.
You also want to cut off about 25mm off one side of the fly bar and grind the brass weights down that will attach the fly bar paddles as they are way to heavy.
I also used an aluminum Eco 8 tail boom support bracket that holds the Eco 8 fin on to mount the tail servo to.
I used a small piece of carbon plate with two brass spacers to mount the servo to.
I also had tons of problems with interference until I switched to the new Horizon Spreadspectrun D7 radio and the two part receiver.
If you want I could send you some pictures as it's easier to see the mode that I just mentioned.
I also used a 6v voltage regulator and Hitec 85 metal gear servos.
And to top it off which isn't necessary but because of really beating on it I made up my own carbon frames with as little cut out as possible and the Eco 8 aluminum bearing block.

at the moment i am looking at what motor to use
when it comes to the trex/x400/esky-cool no problem
this viper i have not got a clue as to what motors are available
as to mods the first will be the tail shaft then see how i go from there
i may hate /love the heli

With the Viper 8 turn motors are out of the question as you are limited by the tail gear ratio. You can take my advice for what it is worth and save yourself a lot of grief.
Just try and keep in mind that the tail gear ratio is what your dealing with.
If your not into doing a lot of sustained aerobatics just stick with the stock type motor and don't push the head speed going vertical fast doesn't mean a thing. It's being able to do it over and over and not bog or over heat anything in the process that says it all.

so far the heli has performed very well on the old motor i fitted brush-less down from a 12t to 9 t pinion but the 30 amp esc cannot take it for to long over heats so i will get a 40 amp esc and take it from there
very stable heli

That is a big problem with the higher RPM motor. You definitely need a 40amp ESC with a high RPM motor which are 8 turn motors. With the 10 turn you might get away with a 30amp ESC as the amp draw goes way down. It's all a trade of as to what you want to do with the heli. It is a very stable heli it's just a shame that they haven't offered a higher gear ratio for the tail. It would be one of the best out there with some minor changes. If you want a higher roll rate as it is a little to stable you can cut off almost 2 inches off the fly bar.

i was looking at the fly bar
it is a bit soft metal wise
so may replace it with another shorter later
i have on order another motor and a 19t pinion with a 60 amp esc a bit over the top but can be used for another model later
also may try the 4 cell li-po pack later

the gears are very simple to replace
4 mins and no main shaft to remove
just waiting on the motor to arrive
