Hi

I have a rappy 50. Is a big handicap practicing fai with this machine?

Can a rappy 50 be adjusted to fly stable enough to practice FAI?

Thanks

Absolutely

A Raptor 50 can be a pretty good contest model. Use a little heavier set of main blades and a little heavier flybar with a slightly thicker paddle and the model sits very well in hover and is still very aerobatic. Last year we had a couple of contests where the "plastic 50" had it's own class and was very competitive with the bigger models. It certainly would work to practice and learn on.

GM1: If you where setting up a Raptor 50 for FAI where would you start assuming that it did not have a governor?

OK

The thread below this one titled F3C Basic Settings has all my fundamental set up stuff in it. Read that and if you have questions feel free to ask and I'll try to answer.

Raptor 50 for FAI

Looks like I'm going ot get some practical experience with a Raptor 50 set up for FAI as my contest buddy bought one for a practice model. Hopefully we can pass on a tip or two.

I won the sportsman class with a raptor 50 two years ago. It takes a lot more training though, more wind sensitive and you have to correct for that with your fingers. For the FAI class I think you can still make some good position but probably you will not have a chance for the first place.

The Raptor will do exceptionally well. The new FAI F3C schedule requires a fast and powerful heli that is responsive. Having it track well is a plus. Gone are the days of rock solid helis that can't do a flipping pullback.
The best part of using the Raptor is that you can practise without as great of a concern about dumping it :=)
I wouldn't compete using a Raptor 50, maybe a 90.
