Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > X-Cell Fury 50, I got questions.

OK Calling all Fury 50 owners.

How does the Fury 50 preform with the OS 50 engine? Is it as agile as you want? or is it just a dog?

Can a Fury 50 be upgraded to a 60 easily?

Has anyone done a side buy side comparison the 60 Vs 50?

Thanks for any info.

While there are many good things in MHW, their reviews aren't
one of them. They're like the Stereo Review of Helicopters.

You will never, ever see a bad review.

The final was when they decked out a Raptor in all of the metal
upgrade parts and thought they provided *excellent* value for the
money. Nothing like putting > $350 of upgrades on a $250
bird.

The 50 is a 60 w/ only the essentials downsized. So, like the XL30,
it'll be somewhat heavy compared to a purpose designed and
built 50. So, figure the Fury50 weighs in at something like 9 lbs,
the Skidoo50 will come in at 7.5-8 or so. A much more
favorable power2weight.

Fury 50 vs. 60

I heard that the Fury 50 is a dog. It is basically the same size as the 60 but with a shorter boom and blades. There's not much of a weight difference. MHW is doing a review in the new issue, however, they don't usually say bad things in their reviews. If you get the 50 Expert, it can be easily upgraded to a 60 Expert, but it's going to cost you. You have to change the boom, torque tube, motor mount, main and tail blades and possibly the main gear. It's just not worth it. Get the 60.

I bought a Fury 60 Expert last week and flew 6 tanks this weekend. It's great. It's lighter than my Freya and slightly more responsive. However, that's probably due to lighter paddles and no expo. The Freya is more stable in a hover. I set it up like the manual said and it required very little trimming and adjustment. The loops are big and round and effortless. It rolls great and autos like a dream. I'm keeping the Freya. I like that heli also.

Fury 50 ro 60

The reason for the 50 is simple, (IMO) The 50 is aimed at 2 different people. 1st is a beginner who has a little more money and wants a 50 instead of a 30. The 50 would be easer to fly than most 30's. With bigger blades = better stability, and the Fury is easy to put together. The second is the person on a budget and 30% fuel is a big part of that budget for a 60. In England I have heard that 30% can run $40 a bottle and in Korea $80 a gallon. So the 50 size engines run good on 15% or 20%, which in the long run is a good savings if you are spending $40 a bottle instead of $20..... Plus the 50 flies great fully 3D capable and makes good power.

<<...the 50 is a dog...>>

Ron Lund would argue that point. He had one, with 700mm blades, as an auto contest ship. He said it was plenty fast and agile. I guess that's as much of a testimony to the grunt of the new OS 50 as to the efficacy of the Fury design. At any rate, another pilot wanted that ship bad enough to trade Ron straight across for a Vigor CS and about $200 worth of spares.

One of the guys at my local field has a Fury 50 with an OS 50 and Muscle Pipe. I've flown it a bit myself, and it's not a dog. It's somewhere between a very hot 30 and a mild 60.

X-Cell 50

I never said it was slow just not a 60, replacement parts are not that different and if I had the choice I would get a 60. If I was just starting or lived in England I would get a 50...
