Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > Airtronics Stylus Questions

Im considering a move over to Airtronics and using the Stylus but i have a few questions for current owners.

All of the places i have looked that even carry airtronics are sold out, so i guess i will have to order direct from them, luckily they are only a couple of hours from where i live I noticed on their shopatron/online store they have several combo's for the Stylus.

1) will i be able to order a "customized" combo with 94758z's, pcm receiver, no rx batteries(going to use duralites), and the TX? i ask this because they dont have this as a package in any form.

2) does it have the option to be synthesized? or am i doomed to module/crystal changes?

3) are lithium tx batts possible? perhaps duralite as well as i have the 3+1 charger for it.

Otherwise i have picked out:

the tx
96813 - ccpm heli card
96751b - blue stick ends(gotta have the high end radio bling )
96800 - 50model memory card
92186Z - 8ch pcm receiver
94758z - servos

Sorry, i have no idea about #1, but i can help with 2 and 3:

2. No synthisizer.

3. Here is the way i mounted my Duralite Tx pack inside the plastic casing of the Stylus:

Just order a "flat" 6 cell pack with no casing as shown in the sketch and install it instead of the original pack as shown. this sketch was reviewed by Jack Price of Duralite, and i did the same for 2 packs with great results.

that kind of sucks =\

interesting rig on the duralite tx batteries. when i order the 6cell flat pack, do i just get the standard 2 wire leads like the other packs come with? and you charge THROUGH the tx with the duralite charger correct??

also, there is full compatibility with all accessories, gyros, gov's etc etc fubtaba included? these may seem noobish questions but im really in the dark about NON-futaba only products

Tried here? They have several packages to choose from and is where I bought mine.

http://www.internet-rc.com/aistfmsefora.html

I don't see a pcm package though, the pcm receiver is $139.99. You might ask them.

Captain Chaos

thanks for the link, never heard of them before.

they dont however have what im looking for =( they have a package with 1 94758z, but im looking for a full setup for an Avant, going to go with 4 of them though on the thr its unnecessary. pcm for use with 601/611, and like i said no rx batts as its going on a lith setup

I3DM thanks for the replies, when i find what im looking for i will order that battery for it and follow that schematic for it.

do any of you have any complaints with the Stylus?

the biggest things that bother me but arent anything more than asthetics really, are the analog trim, and the nondigital voltmeter. the cards are kinda strange too but thats nbd(no big deal).

I have no real complaints about this radio, especially as a dedicated heli radio with the card. It has slides, knobs, and switches galore. There is almost nothing it can't do. And It's pcm speed is 2nd only to the 14mz. (Barely)

Since I'm using the heli card, it would seem a little inconvenient to use the same radio for other types of aircraft as I would at least have to buy a model memory card and pull the heli card out and/or swap it with another type of card to use it for a different type of aircraft. (I don't believe the built-in 4 model memory will store card setups properly while the radio is not booted to that card). (While a card is booted, the radio is dedicated to that type of aircraft and none other).

Actually the voltage is displayed digitally, the needle you see at the top is the RF output indicator.

After having my Stylus for awhile, I finally got to hold a 9303 at a LHS and was no longer as impressed with it as I was before I met the Stylus. What I did like about the 9303 was the built-in 30 model memory, graphical screen, and no cards to change out. I wouldn't even consider a 9c.

Im with Captain chaos, main things i didnt like about the Stylus:
- only 4 memories (without extension card)
- need card for eCCPM
- its big and needs getting used to hold it
- analog trims
- ugly screen

other then that, its a fine radio and the transmission speed is killer !!

hmm didnt know that as in signal strenght going out?

im going to try and find someone around me so i can give it a "test drive" and if it comes down to it, maybe i can go down to the airtronics place down S of me check things out, i have yet to call them but i should to see about the combo/package that id like to get.

I3DM i saw an old post of yours with using 4 758z's and a duralite setup having some problems, was that resolved? will i have problems trying to run 4 758's, 601 w/9251, tj pro and such with a duralite regulated setup: Regulator with HEAVY DUTY Fail Safe Switch - 7.5 amp, 6.0 volt and a 4000mah li-ion?

Well I have almost a month on the Stylus now. I bought it after reading Jkos post on the latency and after hearing all the hype. Got to say I love it. Its very smooth and fast as well. I have the 9z on my sceadu and the Stylus on my Freya Evo. I can notice the difference everytime I fly. It is defiantly a fast radio and can do anything you want it to do.

I would definitely recommend the Stylus for your Avant, spritefiend. Its eCCPM performance and behaviour is simply incredible.

If I3DM had problems with three 758's on an eCCPM setup with the Duralite setup, than you most likely would too. It would probably work with a Fromeco regulator.

There is NO NEED for 758's on the Avant. 9252s are all you need. A reduced amount of servo rotation is used on the Avant and, thus, makes "normal" servos seem even faster than normal. Just ask Pet Niotis if you need any confirmation.

> 601 w/9251, ..., 6.0 volt

You don't want to run a 601/9251 on 6 V. Perhaps what you should get is the Fromeco Arizona so that you can run the 601 and 9251 on 5 V and the rest on whatever you want (5 - 6.25 V).

The Stylus is an incredibly capable radio. You will need the Heli feature card and with that it has capabilities way beyond any other radio except maybe the 14MZ. It is so capable, in fact, that its limitation is the display. It would be very nice to have a servo monitor screen to make sure what you are doing is really doing what you intend for it to do. At times I find myself hooking the DCS cord and a few servos up to a spare receiver and watching what they do.

yea i was thinking of that with the 601, though with the 611 i understand it may be possible to run it on 6v? and even WITH the 601 ive heard mention of people running them on 6v.

this i did not know. would i get the same speed out of the 9252s as the 758s read? not that i would notice at this point im at now, but im not building these machines for some time.

assuming i get the stylus, and it looks more and more like im going to be switching, i will be transfering my 2 sceadu 50s and freya 60 to it, and mess with the avant's when im a bit more up to par.

Actually after several tests we don't recomend the 9252s.

We are recomending going to at least 110 oz of torque and preferably metal gears like the S9255 Heli High Torque/High Speed servo.

The high mobility setting on the Avant is pretty hard on the servos and it can in certain cases strip the gears of the lower torque servos.

The funny thing is that when I switched to some old 9151 servos that are rated as slower than the 9252 but much stronger the cyclic response increased in speed. This is due to the fact that even though the 9252 is faster the torque is less than the 9151 so it takes longer to move than the 9151 that has the higher torque.

Augusto.

Heh, sounds like a tail hunt problem I had. The servo I use on the tail was fast but lacked torque. Tail output shaft was marred and sticky and it caused a hunt because even though the servo was fast, it wasn't strong enough to push through the stickiness quick enough to keep up with the gyro.

thanks for the information on that, ive read of 9252's being used, though not heard of any problems, and im glad that i came across this to avoid any issues in the future.

with the 9255's, and the Stylus, should i use the airtronics pcm receivers? can you use fut recv's with airtronics tx and the like?

it shows the 9255 specs, on towerhobbies all with 4.8v can you use 6v on these?

i definately dont want power problems with 3 758's, but i want the best i can throw at this thing.

I had the power issue running 9252s. I switched to the Arizona reg that Ron Henry told me about and no more problems.

I fly the avant with the stylus and the 94758 servos and it rox. They dont have synthesized but lots of crystals. 3 eccmp machines on the stylus and it works like a charm.

yea i saw that when i was down at the LA Classic, i was the dude in blue following you around with the camera

what type of power system do you use? are all 4 sx are 758's? 601/611 and gov?

id like to run these at 6v, and like i said was intending on the 611 with the duralite reg(as ive heard the 611 isnt limited to JUST 4.8v) but also strongly considering the arizona reg if duralites wont cut it. i will throw brand loyalty aside to get done what i need to get done
