I can't believe it, but I did it...dropped my brand new Stylus and damaged three switches. I ordered the switches from ATX, but could someone tell me if there is a trick or tool to remove the bezel thats hold the switch in place? I don't want to create any more self inflicted damage. Thanks guys.

Check with (PM) TMoore here on the RR. He repaired radios in the past. He might repair it for you or can turn you on to someone close by.

Stylus

I changed the position of the switches on mine and when I plugged it all back together it was in "M" mode. This radio for some reason known only to Airtronics and God defaults to "M" mode when the power is disconnected, which basically makes it unusable until Mr. Airtronics puts it right. Even if you can fix it yourself, you're still stuck sending it back to them to make it work once you finish. You're doomed. steve.

Oooohhh, the misinformation machine is at work again.

The trick to replacing the switches is to buy the correct tool or use a piece of stiff rubber fuel line as a wrench. Just push it over the paddle and twist the bezel off.

The only time that the ATX Stylus reverts to "Sanwa" mode is when the Lithium battery goes dead or is removed. I routinely charge my packs out of the radio and this won't kill the Lithium battery or the memory. Restoring the radio back to ATX mode is at best a 5 minute job. I have done it several times but it is not information that anyone from ATX is likely to give out, especially if you don't know your way around the radio.

It is always best to send the radio back, especially after a drop like you described. My advice is to just that.

Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated.

Terry,

As usual you're the man with all the answers. In the back of my mind I really thought that I should send it back to have it fully checked out. I just finished programming the Stylus to run all of my helis so I will be left with nothing to fly until ATX returns the TX. I'm sure it will be a least several weeks and my flying season is quickly coming to a close. I like the Stylus so much that I'm actually thinking about buying another just to have as a backup in the event something like this happens again. I could have a new Stylus by next weekend and send my first one in to be repaired properly. Again...thanks for your help.

Rob

Call it misinformation or whatever you want, but I'm just relaying on what I was told by two different individuals at Airtronics and what I experienced. They said they had had a number of the radios which needed to be reprogrammed because they defaulted when a programming card was inserted. When changing the top switches it's necessary to disconnect the main battery and the internal connections to the different circuit boards in the radio. This was enough to cause the radio to default. The resetting may only be a 5 minute job, but they wouldn't tell me how to do it and charged me almost $40.00, plus the lost time and shipping to do it themselves. FWIW, I've changed or replaced switches on Airtronics RD8000 and Vangaurd 4 and 6 channel Tx's, Futaba 8UHP and 9VHP, and JR PCM10 and 10SX transmitters w/o problem. When I sent my Quantum Tx to Airtronics to fix, they broke the front cover and didn't have a replacement, so they returned it to me broken. steve.

Misinformtion=fixing your radio doesn't necessarily void the warranty.

Steve,

What happened to your radio is indeed strange. Since you disconnected several boards in the radio there is a possibility that the lithium battery was grounded and that will make the radio revert to Sanwa mode.

I have seen a few Stylus radios that have inadvertantly reset themselves to Sanwa mode and the only thing that I have tracked it down to is static electricity.

Just out of curiosity, why did you change the top switches?

I changed the position of the two top left hand switches so the 3 position switch was in front. Thanks. steve.

Just FYI, ATX would have done that for you and probably not even charged you.

Airtronics turn around time at present is very good or at least it was for me very recently. To cut days off the down time ship overnight both ways.
