Hovering in the kitchen this evening (clear space 10' x 10') about two feet off the floor, I had a great case of PIO (pilot induced occilations). Instead if reigning in some slight drift, I induced an ever quickening series of front/back/left/right woop-de-do's. Finally ping-ponged from the kitchen table, across the room to the stove, and then finally across to the washer, finally ending up in the kitty food bowl. No apparent damage other than broken main blades and a slight nick on one tail rotor blade. All this transpired in just a second or two.

Since I'm and old newbie, I have a couple of questions. The tail wants to rotate in hover. This is what caused my initial divergence, overcorrecting for a tail swing while also inducing some cyclic. Just how "steady" should the gyro hold the tail position? Secondly, is it a reasonable practice to dress out the nick on the tail rotor blade and then rebalance?

Regardless, I've been having a ball with the Blade CP. Quite the little machine compared with my original Schluters from many years ago.

You have to "fly" the tail. The gyro is not a heading hold one. You can also adjust the prop a bit to get the tail to spin faster or slower. The directions for this are in the book, since I don't remember what way does what.
You will still always have to "fly" the tail to some degree.

Turn the gain up on the 4 in 1 all the way til you get used to it.
I've found you can clean up the mains a bit, but it seems to be just a matter of time before they are toast. . .

Ohhh, and practice outside :-)

Ah yes, fly the tail! I was doing that, only badly LOL. I have made a slight adjustment on the proportional control. And post crash, I did slightly increase the gyro gain. Pretty rugged little machine, with the only damage being a broken main blade and slight nick to the leading edge of one tail rotor blade. I have replacement parts coming from Horizon Hobbies. In fact, ordered them last week. I flew R/C (fixed and rotary wing) from 1972 through 1985. So after 20 years I'm back into flying R/C. That's why I claim to be an "old newbie".

Boost the gain up. It will hold fairly well with the gain high. You will definitely see some tail wag but if you are looking for a more steady tail for hovering, that is the ticket.

If it still wants to turn on you, then work the proportional a bit.

I agree .. pretty tough little machine. I do bend main shafts more than I like but they are cheap enough....

Good luck!

That's cool - getting back in. Keep extra tail motors handy.
I just "took off" my training gear - read crashed into a mail box and I'm not replacing it. Not too excited about losing my security blanket.
