Jumpers

Set the jumpers like this:

1 On
2 Off
3 Off
4 Off

It should work fine like this with the sensor set per instructions.
If it doesnt work in this config, something is wrong.
This is the way mine is set up and it works fine.
Try it.

If you follow the manual it doesn't work. If your swash plate moves the wrong way or not at all you need to play with the dip switches until you get them in the right combonation. I think mines is one and two are on and three and four are off, or visaversa. Once you have the dips right. follow these instructions I received from FMA along with the book.

1) in a heli installation, before you begin setup, the only switch position
that is absolute is number 3 which must be set to OFF.
2) the first mode of setup is pitch correction (step 4, page 12). The "P"
sensors are operative.
3) in order to see motion on the "non-P" sensors, you must invoke mode 2
(roll correction) of the setup which is step 5, page 12. To invoke mode 2,
you have to press the calibration button after you have entered setup.
After you're in setup, you can go back and forth between pitch and roll
correction as many times as you like by pressing the button over and over.
For each mode only 2 sensors are on, either the "P" (pitch) sensors, or the
"non-P" (roll) sensors.
4) confirmation of the RMT on/off function can be done any time during
setup. Step 3, page 10.
5) the unit should cycle 3 times when you first enter setup.
6) the unit should cycle 1 time when you switch between pitch and roll
setup.
7) the unit should cycle off your weather count when you enter calibration
(not setup) and you have the heli on its side over grass. The unit will not
cycle a weather rating inside. You must be outside.
8) After the weather cycle count, the servos will begin to oscillate slowly
back and forth. During this period, you set the heli level on the grass.
We recommend the use of bubble levels to get the heli level. Then walk back
10 feet and move the aileron stick to stop the oscillation and end
calibration.

If you have any other problems, feel free to call me at the numbers above.
Have everything setup and ready to work. I'll walk you through everything.

Sincerely,

Tim Marks

I have the following setup,
Raptor 60 with JR 10 CH PCMS reciever
JR 8411 Servos
JR 460T w/ 8700G
OS 61

JR 10X Radio

I have the Co-pilot SECURELY installed about 8 inches from the boom brace by the main rotor.

BTW, Don't get me wrong... By all means I'm not trying to disparage the product. I have a Co-pilot in my fixed wing trainer (to help train the new fixed wing guys) and it works pretty well.

I'll definately try the steps provided in the thread.
I appreciate the help on this. If I can get this working right, it should GREATLY improve on my learning curve

Co-Pilot Dave??

I thought you guys were talking about that guy out at my field that keeps saying "TURN RIGHT!! IT'S UPSIDE DOWN!! ROLL LEFT, NOW SWING THE TAIL TO THE RIGHT!!". This usually doesn't work to correct your flight, but can be a nice annoyance.

Life's a journey, NOT a destination.

Co-Pilot

The co-Pilot only works on grass if your flying on pavement it will make Your Heli do all sort of crazy things. So if your flying on a grass feild its great but dont fly or land on tar It will be a disaster

Co-Pilot

So, Do i just spend more time with my G2 or go the co-pilot way and try not to crash.? I am having a hell of a time learning to hover. I am a new pilot, crashed once last year and did not fly again. No confidence, the guys at the field are helpful but a little intimidating. Have spent a little time with the G2 over the winter. Now I am thinking about fixed wing electric, maybe I am just not cut out for heli??

Hover84, got to disagree with you big time there. I've got one on my Hawk and one on my X-Cell. I fly them regularly on my work car park (all tarmac) and they work just great. Least ways on Saturday when I was pirouetting my X-Cell like mad it was working

Phil

You say you have one on your x-cell, i take it it's not CCPM as iam told the co-pilot does'nt work on CCPM, but they are developing a unit to work on CCPM due out in the near future.

Thats right, its a 60 SE (of sorts). I say that cos its had one or two upgrades and mods. But the Co-Pilot works really well in it. I just have it set to about 50% gain and it will hold the heli spot on.

I'm just in the process of assembling another X-Cell. This is loosely based on a 60 SE but with quite a few bits made by me. Lower side frames in ally etc. The result of a bag full of spares after a 'little' crash with me first one!

Personally my feeling is that the Co-Pilot performs much better in the 60 ship than it does in the 30. Even with the gain at 100% or 25% the Hawk is very sensitive to the commands of the system. I wont engage the unit until I'm at least 20' off the deck in the Hawk. Where as with the X-Cell I can do off the deck, full collective and rudder, cork screw take off's with no problem

The Co-Pilot has saved me a number of times.

Put it on switch and fly with it off. When you start doing forward flight and Rolls and Flips if you lose orientation with the heli, Flip the switch and let the Co-Pilot fly while you regain your orientation. It will save you the cost of the Co-Pilot the first time you have to use it.

I did my first two stall turns today with one on my X-Cells. I nearly lost it at one point, pulled it up at about 4 feet from digging a hole in the ground! Two other occasions I resorted to turning the Co-Pilot on when I lost orientation at hight. No doubt they are worth the money. The trick is to not get too used to flying with it on all the time, its amazing what you can do
