Does anyone know of a new product called "Co-Pilot Dave"?
I am told it will bring your heli back to a hover, if you loose control, all you do it take your hands off the sticks. Then Co-Polit Dave takes over and brings your heli back to a control point. If it really works it would be a great tool for the newbie.

Co Pilot Dave

I have one of these. I have been using it now for about 3 weeks
It does work! It is very easy to install and is easy to set up. You can get one in Lewisville at Aero Hobbies.

It seems to work best if you have an extra channel on your receiver then you can turn it off then back on when you need it.

Are you sure your not talking about the FMA Co-Pilot????

Are you sure its called Dave? I did see the FMA Co-Pilot and it is pretty much the only one I have ever seen. Do you have a pic? Thanks!

Looks like I should buy one!!!

I crashed today while flying around a parking lot. Lost the Mains, tail blades, pitch slider, flybar, one paddle is chipped. It actually faired a lot better than expected. I expecting a mess when I walked over. It was kinda windy and it started to slide backwards on me. Plus there was some guy bothering me asking all sorts of questions. A crash kit will give me some extra parts for next time anyway. If anyone gets one of those co-pilots and tests it out let me know. Im very interested to see how they work.

Co Pilot

The system everyone is talking about (Co Pilot Dave) Is in fact the
new FMA Co-Pilot When these were received the packing slip refered to it as "Co-Pilot Dave" The name just stuck.....

Answers to your question "Does it work?" The answer is YES! We have put a heli in almost ever orientation and removed your hand from the cyclic. "Dave" recovered it for us. Even from inverted! The system is very simple and easy to set up. Just follow the directions..... After the set up take the heli out to the flying field and do the simple calibration (per instructions) and go fly....

The Copilot system only controls cyclic functions and not collective. But, If the heli had enough throttle and pitch and was properly "field calibrated the heli would fly hands free until it ran out of fuel.

For landing you can remove you hand from the cyclic control an just use your Thottle/pitch control to land.

Facinating isn't it? This system will help with those first time forward flight training sessions.

You can purchase these from AERO HOBBIES in Lewisville, Texas

Co Pilot

If you have any questions on the installation e-mail me I would be glad to help. I installed the sensor on the boom just behind the main frame.
I used a horizonal fin mounting bracket and clamped it to the boom then I used "BOLINK" servo tape to hold the sensor in place

Co-pilot? or PIC.

For me the big question is,
Will it take command of the aircraft when I don`t want it to ,
example, inverted flight with a couple of seconds of neutral
cyclic input ? Can it be set up with an on off switch,
like you get in trouble then flip the switch & center the stick
or vice versa?

It can be turned off and on.

Yes you can assign switches to it. I have channel 5 on my tx and its hooked to rx ch5. Whenever i hit the switch it turns on and off. BTW its a Futaba radio.

When you flip the switch, does it respond quick enough
to get you out of trouble or does it take a few seconds
like a gyro?

Reaction time is very quick if your cyclic stick is centered.

I have my gain set at a moderate setting and just fly with it on.
it will make the control a bit sluggish but it is flyable.
If you are flying inverted anyway then you probably don't need this system. Crashes are still possible just not as often.

The system never does shut off completley even with a switch it just lowers the gain setting.

This system works fine but it isn't a cure all. After all it costs $100.
your heli cost $1,500 - $2,000 What can you expect?

For $100. you can try it if it saves the heli one time from a crash you paid for the device 2 - 3 times You do the math!

If you get one we will help with the setup if needed.

sounds good to me

It might make me a little too brave in the air but
I`m gonna try one

ps. I`m not flying inverted yet, just holding
it a few seconds in a flip ,loop or a roll
thanks everybody:

To program in my co-pilot (Fut 8U) I mixed channel 8 with channel 8 and then assigned the idle up switch to the mix. This way I can have high gain in normal mode and low gain in idle ups AND adjust the sensitivity with the channel 8 knob as well. Works great!

Co-pilot

I've had one of these for about 3 weeks now and I can not get the darned thing to work. I have gone over the instruction manual about 10 times doing exactly as stated but I cannot get it to work. Once I ferm the calibration and setup, the Swash plate turns to the right and when I put my hand in front of the sensor it doesn't really do anything. I'll pick up the heli and move it around and the co-pilot doesn't react like it should. It's almost like it's not responding to the horizon correctly. I'd call their tech support but unfortunately I'm at work during their hours. They want to "walk you through" the steps with the heli.
I have set and reset the jumpers to no avail. Any tips from the guys who have succesfully used this?

BTW, I ordered this directly from FMADIRECT.COM
