e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > My Ducted Fan Conversion Pics ***56K Warning***

Well, after some inspiration from some fellow RR members, I decided to take the plunge so I could take off on grass. I could not find any good quality pictures of this anywhere on RR, or the internet. So, here are some pictures of the ducted fan conversion I did on my Blade CP tonight. The fan has massive power and is actually a lot quieter than I expected and definately quieter than the stock giant blade. It is a little heavier, but I think it will be fine. I have not tested it yet, because my bird doesn't fly right now, but that is a whole different subject. If you are concerned about the weight, you can leave off the back top fin, I opted to put it on because it doesn't add hardly any weight being CF. If you crash a lot, it will probably just come off eventually. Anyways, I hope this helps some of you out!

Impressive

Not bad.... looks like the lighter got away from ya on those heat shrinks... Whats the plan if you need to replace the fan? Let us know how well it works when you get it up in the air again....

Life isn't fair.. Luckly it's a game and cereal!

I was careful with the lighter, the heat shrink tubing was a little too big for the size wire, I had to "super shrink" it. If the fan goes bad, I'll have to re-solder the wires. No big deal to me. From what I heard these motors last forever though.

What type of fan (name/part #) are you using and where did you get it? Are you running on the 3S 11.1V Lipos? Thanks.

Very nice job, looks good. How does the heli fly in comparison to the stock tail blades? How much did that system cost u? And what is the estimated flight for that motor?

Thanks C-Chopper

Got the motor here since they where in CA, close to me and it would get here fast:
Clicky
$11.73

Got the mount/wing here since they where also in CA, and it was cheap:
Clicky (Scroll to the bottom)
$19.00

After tax and shipping the total cost was $41.29.

The fan part number I got was the EDF-40H. This one is rated for the higher 11.1v lipo packs. The EDF-40 lower voltage packs. I am using a 11.1v lipo pack.

Not sure what the estimated flight for the motor is because I have not flown it yet. I think I need a new 4-in-1 for my heli. Gonna go get one today. It sure does have a ton of thrust though!

Dang that thing looks heavy. What kind of weight increase did you notice after the conversion. Looks very cool though. Hope it flies good for you

I noticed that there was a little bit more weight, but it is minimal. Once I get this thing in the air, I'll let you guys know. I just picked up a new 4-in-1 unit a few minutes ago, so when I get that installed later tonight or tomorrow, I should be good to go.

Tail Rotor

Have you flown this mod yet? If so, how did it go? would you think this is better than the DD mod with the prop?

Yes. I have about 15 flights on this ducted fan tail setup now. It works really well. You will have to re-balance your blade. All I did was move the battery forward a bit, because it ads more weight to the tail. It has a ton more thrust than the stock tail motor and doesn't kill the motor or ruin the prop when you crash.

Brushless Ducted Fan

Just finished a brushless ducted fan setup myself. I love it, but I like the duct holder you have. Very clean.

for the love of God - how about compressing the images? They would look the EXACT same - and be the same resolution - but be 5-10x smaller for transport/loading/storage with proper JPG compression.

I have a cable modem, and I am not even going to bother with this slow loading topic.
