How does it fly?

It is weird to fly but once you get used to the look it actually is very stable. I used 3 JR NEJ-900 gyros, you can actually lift into a hover with one finger in calm conditions. It is not fun to fly when windy but when calm or in gentle breezes it just cruises around. The item that made the difference in my opinion was adding a throttle govenor. I run the heads at 1300, it is plenty crisp at that speed. I'm looking forward to spring, it is about 15 degrees right now, YUK!!!

Finally someone writing about the PHROG again

I`ve jsut recently taken the dust of mine and done a major maintenance, where i found out that i had bent 2 blade holder screws on the aft rotor head thus causing massive vibes. With new scres and a bit of ballancing the heli is nice and smooth again !

I also replaced my Nick PG-03 with a MS-44 HH Gyro. I`ve flight tested a bit and seems ULTRA stable in hover, the forward flying i couldn`t test much and the one flight i got in i flew with the wrong modell programm in my TX causing way too big controll throws and lots of overcorrecting

I've been so busy working on another scale project that I haven't flown it much. I did take it to work and fly it in the hanger last week. That was fun!

What kind of gyro do you have on elevator A&P ?
Did you ever go to full forward flight or just hovering it?

Lately i`ve been bitten by the 3D bug, so my scale ships are starting to collect dust a lot... and the CH46 could start to become a reall hangar queen as the conditions have to be pretty much perfect to go outside with it..

I have a 401 on the elevator. It's a bit touchy in FF.

with the MS44 it was the same... i`ve reduced ATVs to only 25%, that makes for a LOT slower response.. also the travel limit on the Gyro had to be reduced significantly...

It`s strange to fly and NOT have to hold forward elevator all the time... i need to retrain my brain

In a hover it is very stable. I have heading hold on, it works well, but you have to be careful when lifting off. The elevator can drift while setting on the ground.

yea i almost had a tip over for the same reason.... i made it a habit of pulling back on the elevator to make the nose lift off first.
