For those into th CH46 Seaknight, there is now a 3 Bladed head conversion available. I've done the conversion but am awaiting blades to arrive from MS.

I saw this model in Prague and it looks dead cool, especially as the blades have a bit of droop in them

I'm told it flies even better but I'll let you know in the next week or so.

Hi Gorn,

Just finished my CH46, its a really nice kit to build not too difficult although the setup is a bit challenging.

I based mine on a US Marines version (thanks to dgshaffer for the link!) -

Painted it using Tamiya Acrylics (thanks to meatbomber for the tips), first time with my new airbrush -

The kit decals didnt match the target heli so I made my own using inkjet waterslide decals, I scanned the bits of the original decals I wanted. In the case of the star and stripe emblem I made this bigger than the kit version and as the target doesnt have a white background the clear decal works much better, it also tones it down a bit -

Havent flown it with the fuselage on yet as I have a bit more setup to complete. The kit itself flies really well very stable and kind of weird to begin with but once you are used to the pivot point being around the centre it is good fun.

I documented the build on my website - http://www.rcmi24v.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

Had a great time building it, I have a lot of detailing to do yet before I am completely happy with it but pleased with progress so far.

Nice job Heli_Madken. Was the camo hard to paint?
Next stop is the 3 blade rotor head conversion?
There's always time for another mod lol.
Thanks very much for posting the pics and the link.
I'd like to see more as it gets more detailed, and video to if you do one
Cheers

Just so you know, Pictures, setup, and analysis links on your page for the CH46 do not work. Aside from that, very well done.

Hi Meatbomber,

I bought the clear inkjet decal paper from a company in the UK - http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.u...ip%20decals.htm I am sure there will be suppliers in Austria.

I scanned the original MS Composit decal sheet to give me what I wanted. After this its just a matter of drawing what else you want in a good quality drawing package, I use CorelDraw.

Searching round on the net should get you what you want. Put Columbia Helicopters in as a search string and browse images, I found this straight away -

There are lots of other images that might be useful.

When dry the sheet is sprayed with three coats of X22 clear, this is to seal the sheets as inkjet inks are not waterproof. I left mine to dry overnight then applied them in the same way I have done since a kid with waterslide decals by dipping in lukewarm water for 30 seconds then sliding them in place smoothing out carefully and left to dry. I then sealed them to the heli with a coat of clear, they worked a treat.

I have used a computer before to generate graphics but have only just discovered this system, it has me quite excited as the possibilities are endless for self made graphics without any real specialist equipment and cheap as well.

On nitro helis its just a matter of sealing them in with something like Rustoleum and they should last

Hope this helps

Hi @all,
here you see my CH46

and one question: I'm looking for scale light in this Heli. Where can I get the right information. I know there are two at the back, but are they flashing and are they red? Green and red is really simple, but what is underneath?

Thanks

Dieter

If you do a search for Vertol on airliners.net you'll get a load of pictures that's how i got the location for the lights on mine...

Basically you have two red rotating (slow flashing) beacons on the aft rotor pylon, one in front and one aft of the head. And a lower at about half fuselage if i recall correctly. and there's a nav light each below the window aft of the RH side door and one white on the tail of course

the nose hase at least 1 retractable landing light and 2 fix installed lights in the center.

Hey Meatbomber
I was looking on MS Composit home page last night, and they now have the heli kit from the factory with a 3 blade kit.
Do you know anything about it? Im guessing its just the head blocks and the extra blades.
Did you use the cnc swash or do you think its not a big deal?
Very expensive little bird, made my mind spin after looking at the costs involved for a micro class heli.
Im yet to see a video of a stable hover too, is it quite twitchy to fly?
Still sitting on the fence over one of these. Would die for a Hirobo Chinook but 2.5k is far too much for me lol.
Cheers
