Has anyone figured out why this happens to some people. Mine was installed correctly, blade writting towards motor. It got hot enough to burn you, and finally died within 10 minutes. 3s lipo, 4in1.

i had the same problem. I actually burned through two, each lasted for like 5 min. You can try a smaller prop.

i just dont understand how some are having great success with this setup. It has to be that they are at 9.6 instead of 11.1 volts....

yeah, but i think its the 4530 prop issue. Its just too big for the motor to handle. After burning up the two motors i just installed a stock replacement and it works ok but does not hold when i throttle up fast. WHen this one burns up, i will try the GWS with the 3030 prop, i think that should solve the problem. I dont really like running the 9.6v, only gives me 5 min run and it takes like 1 hour to charge.

You finally got a blade huh? Did you get bored of the shuttle/ hehe Try a smaller prop. I think a 4020 or was it 4025. With these props the motor will last longer. the 4030 prop is good for a 2 cell lipo setup or 9.6 volts. Anything over that will burn the motor up quick. Be sure to use a heatsink too. It helps out a lot. Oh yea I would recomend to fly for about 5 mins and land to let the motors cool down. That should increase the motor life.

Must have more POWER!

Don't feel too bad.

You're not alone, same happened here with 2 EDP-50 motors using the 4530 props. Smoked the first motor which had been used on a Hummer. Figured, well it was ready to take a dump anyways. Put a new EDP-50 in and she fried within 6 minutes and I wasn't even working the tail (using double heat sinks on the tail too). Sure held nice though. Just didn't exactly like the way the little orange EP-0320 was holding so I put on the 4530 for a try. Sad part is that this is my dad's bird. I had mine crossed over to brushless seperates and haven't looked back. He doesn't want to spend the money and wanted a small tail dia for flying off some loose pee gravel in the drive sooooo....................
Looks like we will be going back to the smaller sizes again and hope that the tail last for a bit.........

I have hours on the direct tail deal from GWS. I made the mistake once of using the non-helicopter version of the direct drive tail motor and it burned up immediately. Evidently, two versions of the same motor are from GWS and one of them will work with three lipos that we need. I will try to find the part number for you guys.
Once the correct motor is established, the 4530 prop is perfect and you can get hours of flight time out of the motor and it runs cool enough to hold after flying.

Bdmcobra,

AH, that makes sense - please let us know as I would like to resolve this issue once and for all. Let us know the part number and from whom we can get the correct motor from. I like using the 4530 props on the tail. Look forward to you reporting back to us. Thanks!!

The Gws -part number is GW-EDT-50/H for the motor for direct tail drive. The Gws part number for the prop and adapter assembly to put on the motor is H030b. I use a little green locktight on the adapter assembly because the tiny screws holding it onto the shaft sometimes don't do a good job.

The /H on the motor part number is the important part.
This can be bought by many hobby shops everywhere as it is very popular and inexpensive.

I posted this before, but just in case someone missed it: You can get a turn key setup with 3 x 2 props, the correct motor, and CNC G10 motor mount/fin from Smart RC in Australia. The parts come fast to the US.... It looks like it may take a minor amount of work.

If you read the instruction manual, you need to get a smaller shaft or else you will burn it!
