What about the Cyclone one?

Got KALT?

Feels good to see all the Kalts out there!! They were always "BEEFY" Birds. I have 2 Excaliburs and an Omega Professor and a Kalt Epcilon fuselage.

Aaah yes, the Kalt pilots of yesteryear . Gary Kurtzman, Kenny Marshall and the gang. They were an AWESOME bunch of reps that made Fun Flys that much more fun..

I've got video of Kenny Marshall 3D a Gas Alpha at a Phoenix Fun Fly.

Dang I wish KALT would come back and show some of these companies how to build a REAL ship!

It would be cool to have a KALT Fun Fly. Maybe everyone meet up at IRCHA or some National event. It would be cool to fly em all again.

Kalt Jet Ranger

Kalt Pilots a dying breed? I don't think so......We all are diehards and its this machine that taught us well. Those kalts had lots of interchangeable parts, but most of all they were easy to fix, not as complicated and easy fly as well. Been flying since 1983 when I bought my first 50 Custom Bell 222A, lastly I am getting ready to fly again,as soon as I finish up one last bird (Kalt Jet Ranger).

Update

Kalt Baron 30MX

Hey guys, new to this forum. I just dug out my Baron 30 that last flew around 1990 sometime. I haven't flown anything since. A small micro heli I got as a gift brought the bug back! So I removed the trashed engine and the old radio gear with the idea of putting in a new(newused)engine, a new radio that can be used in case I decide to upgrade to a newer machine, new heading hold gyro, servos, fuel system, main blades etc. The heli is still in good shape. Has anyone had any positive luck doing this? or am I better of selling it to someone for the parts? Not sure if this is like riding a bike or should I break out the wiffle balls. What are some of the issues that came up for those of you who have actually done this? I'm at a crossroads because I can get back into the hobby for a few hundred dollars and be flying a fantastic machine but when I break something then it's all over, or put the money towards a newer machine. I was at the intermediate level of flying but it was almost 20 years ago. With a family now, stepping up to buy a new 60 kit and all the jazz is probably not going to happen. I foresee having to prove this is not a phase or a midlife crisis before I can outlay the big $$$
any thoughts? Anyone want to buy a Kalt 30 for parts?

Hey Guys, thanks for the nudge in the right direction. Got a blade 400, upgraded the servos and took it out for a flight after 20 years! FWIW it is like riding a bike. Although I will admit to wiping it out pretty good a couple of times after getting cocky
This is NOTHING like when we were flying those old Crickets and Cobras (with no gyros I might add). I now plan on getting the Baron 30MX back in the air. I can see the smile on the old bird already! I bet she never thought she would get another chance to fly again. I never imagined I would fly it 20 years down the road back in it's day.

Keep them Kalts flying

XC8XOH,

Hey guy.......great for you to join us and us diehard Kalt Pilots. Once again, The older birds were built better than the newer ones, even though cost to flying a newer bird is relatively cheaper in some cases, yet the older ones had character. And we had lots of Scale bodies to place them in, the newer birds were either too light, too small or unable to lift a scale.....have you seen the scale bodies....almost like paper or thin plastic......anyways, fly the old stuff and sell if you like, but as me and the others who fly 50 or 60 custom Kalts.....they still are a breed apart, regardless of age. I started flying in 1983......stopped in 1995, and now I am soon to fly again in 2008. I have to replace a few things as well, but it will be worth it......Happy Hovering, 1stSgtBang

Kalt Pilots

I have several different heli,s,some old some new.My old Kalt Alpha Gasser now sports a new G260 puh,all new digital servos,a top of the range JR gyro servo combo, carbon blades all round, all new bearings.Century V3 muffler.I love this old heli and i would sooner fly this than any other. It is simple, well made and easy to work on.I can have the engine out in 10 minutes.I have found that spares can be aqquired if you are patient and i have enough now to last me for years.Just seems to me that there was quality in a lot of the old heli,s that is not always there now IMHO.

Kalt Parts

Aloha Guys,

Has anyone taken the time to transcribed what parts we can replace from our Kalts to the new birds flying. Toejab has a great replacement for the maingear, does anyone have any other syggestions for Main shafts, Clutch Bells, TR Gear Boxes, Blades and Bearings? I am planning for future replacement parts, or is there a place that can transcribe old Kalt numbers to newer airframes? 1stSgtBang

Kalt Parts.

Would be nice if some of the people that own Kalts would interchange ideas on how they have gotten over the spares problem by using alternative parts.Any older helicopter can be a problem but usually the ingenuity of their owners can utilise parts from other models.I have found the easiest parts to locate are generally bearings as you only have to measure your originals and companies like Boca Brgs can supply and can easily upgrade to shielded if required. They even have the one way(or Torrington)bearings ,which a lot of people do not realise, again just give them the sizes required.Where i have quite a collection of older heli,s i tend to study other newer models to see if they are similar and parts might adapt.Cluch bells are one of the things that can be very similar amongst models.

I used to look to see what other parts will work. While I was doing that, I was buying other helis and parts. Now, I am at a point, where I mostly don't look at other helis for parts I can modify. I have a fair amount of parts to keep my enforcer zr flying for a very long time. But there is one mod for a sceadu mainshaft that will allow it to work on the enforcer, enforcer zr, baron 30, and baron 30s. But you need a cnc lathe and endmill, or access to one or like me a buddy with access to a machine shop.

Man, I miss the eighties.

Kalt parts needed.

I have a NIB MRC Kalt Bell 212...same mechanics as the Hughes 500, 60 size. EXCEPT that the tail rotor gearbox has a broken black plastic case. I need a gearbox or case. Im also looking for the collective head....mine is the fixed pitch version. I also need patterns for the wood and a windshield. Thanks in advance. Dan

Wow, this thread brings back a lot of memories. I flew Kalt from '84 to '94 and was sponsored by Mr Oki for most of that time. Did a bit of design work that was used in the Omega and Omega Pro and made carbon frame sets for the baron Alpha II. Man that seems like a whole life time away from now.

Baron 30MX update

hey guys, in case anyone else used to fly one of these...
I built a new radio rack/tray out of new material as the original one was soaked in exhaust oil and 20 years old. I installed a brand new O.S. 32SX-H. This required modifying the fan shroud just a tad due to the wider fins on the newer engine. Also I had to grind down the pinion shaft that enters into the clutch housing about 1/8 inch. There is a few differences between the new OS32 and the old OS 28-F that this heli was designed for. The new shafts are not designed for the airplane type spinner backplate that the older helis used to use to mount the clutch to. Installing the backplate and a washer is where the length gets eaten up requiring a modification to the output pinion shaft. Other than that, the new engine drops right in. I think it will be a better deal than messing around with the old engine. I have enough trouble getting parts for the heli without adding the engine to the list! Up next is new servos, Ar7000 rcvr, and a Gyro. I thought about using the old Futaba rate gyro, but decided against it due to risk of failure. Anyone have any ideas for a cheap simple modern gyro? This thing will be hovering and FF only. I don't need top of the line 3D equipment on board. Will the small Eflite or align gyros work on a nitro machine? I still am trying to track down a baron canopy and I have to figure out what to do about 550 main blades that will fit these blade grips. I think with some of the modern equipment and a tighter ball link setup, more powerful engine, this thing might fly better than original. I'll post pics when it's airborne.
P.S. I know the skids aren't original. They're from the H500D scale this was in. I will mount the originals to make it authentic

Edit

Try a search for gyros here :

I don't know how any of these gyros perform , but they are cheap enough !
