Well I got a 10-T pinion and clutch for my R22 Ergo 50 / OS 50.. So I installed it last night and tried it today..... YIKES!!! I didn't change any of my settings, that OS 50 is an ANIMAL!! I lifted off into a hover and the head speed was going balistic!! Geez..what do I know about settings?? Not much I'm afraid... I set it down and got my wife to tach it for me...ya she's come a long way from last yr......
Anyway the head speed was (at a hover in normal mode) 1960!!!! Yikes, the poor R22 didn't like that too much.... So I dialed the "hover pitch" ALL the way to+ and tried it again, the head speed came down to 1680..the heli was much happier and so was I. Obviously I need to increase the pitch curves......the 50 didn't even seem to notice the extra tooth in the pinion. I have 5.5 gal through it so far and it's getting close to break-in I think.
I'm using 20% Wildcat and I'm getting a LOT of smoke....much more than I expected to see, the main needle is at about 1 turn out...maybe a click or two less.....why so much smoke??? The Venom temp monitor says I'm running about 218 deg. This seems OK to me,but I'm no expert???
Any suggestions????....Thanks for any help........

Yep, on my Raptor zero pitch is 28% and full pitch with no mix is 68% with 15% more mix and it will still overspeed at top of climb (even stinking Rich).

Put it away and fly the Connie (It will be like it's on a governor)

I would not recommend that you leave the OS .50(ringed motor) running that warm. I am running 30% CP on 9.1:1 and the temps are 185-195.

I always set my pitch curves and pretty much leave them alone. I use the throttle curve to get the headspeed I am looking for. That along with the needles.

So, if you are set to hover at 5 degrees and you were getting 1900+ then the heli should be climbing. Either you aren't getting the same pitch in flight you are measuring on the bench or your headspeed is misleading.

Did I mis-understand you??
