Just an fyi, if you happen to need a replacement shear pin for your head - large safety pin works pretty well.

A good idea, however, may I suggest using a small paperclip instead. The metal used in safety pins might be to stiff. A paperclip is rather soft metal and would give and shear much easier in the event of a crash. I've also read that someone uses copper wire. I believe Horizon recommends .039" diameter. Better to have a 1 cent piece of wire give rather than have the shock transmit through the machine and damage $15 worth of parts.

Just a thought

How

How would a guy know if he had a piece of .039 wire (not a milright here)

Will a paper clip do?...How fo I get the old sheared part out completely out of the center?

Thanks

I pushed mine out with a piece of safety pin in some vice grips - it's quite the pain.

Boyd's safety wire idea is great ,but hard to find. So I went up to my local ACE hardware and bought 18 gage wire. I thread a long piece through the pin hole and bring the ends together and twist the wire tightly against the rotor hub, than cut it leaving about 1/4 in. You can leave it there or bend it towards the hub. It's soft enough to give and easy to take out. Works great for me.

pin stuck

I can't get the pin out of the main shaft..
The part that sheared is in there
I tried a pin and vice grips but that didn't work...
Then I thought if I took the top of the head off and was just looking at the shaft maybe I'd have a better chance then but I couldn't even get the flybar/paddles off...I took off the linkages and the screw off the top but it still wouldn't slide over the top?

dang - that's gonna be tough. no way to see through the hole to see if you are even lined up to push the pin out.

This has worked for me on other parts on that shaft the bearings namely. get some pliers and use them to tap on the head if you can, like open them up and close them loosely around the shaft and tap.
May just have to muscle it off or you are looking at a new main shaft AND a head

Yeah that happened to me too, I was using a paper clip as a replacement pin. I tried drilling it out and couldn't so I scrapped the hub and gear. That's why I tried the stainless steel wire and it's worked the best for me.

I have had pretty good luck with a size 20 sewing needle, its fairly brittle enough to snap if need be and is tapered perfectly for ease of installation, snip excess off with diagonals
