You can see the debris from the blade cracking in half and the portion of the blade that I think struck the starter (lower left leg).

It did indeed hit the IRCHA VP in the leg. He seemed ok with a small bandage on it afterwards.
Damn, it sounded like a gun shot when the blades parted with the heli.

IRCHA

This was my first time at IRCHA. Had a blast meeting some friends and watching all that went on. If you haven't gone you need to. The flying was awesome.

I walked away with some cool stuff.

HAHAHAAAAAAA.... The purple hippo, I've got fond memories of drunken hippo rodeo with that thing from when I went to school there

IRCHA was a blast for a first fun fly! Got me over my fear of other people flying in the first day!

RE: The drag race incident

I want to thank all of those that have emailed and asked about my condition.
I am fine....... I am EXTREMELY LUCKY..... but this is a prime example of how important safety really is. I wanted to use a horn for the starting as I do at the event at my home field.......but none to be found at the time. ( just where was your horn HC?) We were running behind schedule and concerned with the possiblility of bad weather, so in the interest of keeping things moving I choose to start the way we did..... rest assured that I will have a horn for next year!

Yes IRCHA has had discussion about saftey before this years event for the best possible ideas for making it safer. I will be posting a topic dedicated to the restructure of this event. Remember it is easy to give off the cuff suggestions, but we need solid solutions. Keep in mind the logistics of getting a system to ANY IRCHA fun fly and how that idea works for today, tomorrow and for the years to come.

How's this for my first IRCHA?

Flew up from Mexico with my Flying Buddy (Alex), my suitcase did not arrive at Indianapolis with me but got to muncie before I did, so no harm done.

Met Ron Henry and Tim and Mat from MA, Ron (Super Cool Guy) spent a full tank talking me and Alex through the Chaos, I don't think we're up to it right now but at least we've got the basics.

Bought a new STRATUS kit (Very good deal).

Saw all Demos.

Saw the "Drag race incident" sounded very loud and left everyone with their mouth dry.

Saw an Electric (600 mm Blades) win the Drag races.

Saw the Night Fly. Again an electric won.

Saw Mat from MA do a ROTOR STOP AUTO, talk about a rush. (Yes he stops the blades in flight and then recovers from that)

Spent an hour getting plugged on the new Synergy.

Met a lot of nice people.

Last but not least, I WON an EVO 90 on the raffle

Is there any doubt I'l be there next year?

None!

See you guys in 2007!

I would love to see some video of the drag races. What brand was the 600mm electric heli that won that event?

Elec R50 conversion "600EP" was a prototype machine made by XeroG. It will be available soon through (Len Sabato's) "RC Helis Plus" found on the RR home page.

There are also some pics of my 600EP in my gallery (hit display all)

This is Ken and that machine less canopy on the right. Congrats Ken!!

------------

Of course IRCHA came and went really fast once again! The big storm even blew some of it away ! Man, I'm still not recovered!!

It was great to see all the old buddys there, and awesome to meet guys that came up and introduced themselves (usually with their RR nicks) from guys I have been chatting with here for years.

Looking forward to the many events left yet this year... and already planning for IRCHA 2006!

Goes without saying to all that staffed the event through IRCHA and AMA and all the people that gave their time and helped out.... You guys ROCK!

Excellent Work

Mark F,

Thanks for the time and effort in taking some most excellent pictures. What a blast to look back on them know and remember the fun we all had at IRCHA 05. You could not have timed that Roman Candle shot over the foamie picture any better. Great work!

Thanks

Look at the tail boom. I think during this demo Malorie pulled out a close one when almost bouncing off the grass inverted.

Good job Mark F.
