JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Vigor parts fit....what fit????

Not too happy with JR heli ATM - my Vigor CS is only 4 months old but
is showing some far too early signs of wear....

Has anyone else had trouble with the clutch bell to bearing fit - I
had to replace my clutch bell after only 4 months - it had worn away
where it sits on the bearing!

Engine alignment is spot on as is frame & gear alignment (was the
first thing I checked)
So.... I just ordered a replacement clutch bell £56 (about US$80)
which in itself is an outrageous price, and a brand new bearing - and
to my surprise the NEW clutch bell is a VERY SLOPPY FIT on the
NEW bearing - this explains exactly why the first one failed!

While I'm in rant mode, I have to replace the starter socket also -
edges of the socket are rounding off:( The material appears to be far
too soft (not hardened)

whilst the heli flies very nicely, I'm not too impressed by the
tolerances and quality of some of parts of this machine, and the cheap
(Singapore) bearings supplied in the kit especially at the premium
price of the kit!

Happy flying

Clutch Bell

I had the same problem with the bell wearing out. I cured it with a new clutch bell and bearing. Mine was also a little loose, or a lot loose depending on how you look at it. I fixed the looseness by taking a small punch and LIGHTLY dimpling the clutch bell at 90 degree spots around the bell which made it fit snug then useing a small amount of a green locktite I have. The green is a little thicker than blue. Now it works great and I'm not looking forward to taking it back apart. After I installed the new clutch I've had another look at the old one and I think by using the same process I can also fix it. BTW my machine had 17 gallons of fuel run through it when the clutch failed, so I would guess thats not to bad.

Did you put some grease into the socket?

I have a Vigor with about 6 gallons through it and i've had no problems.

Recenty started doing some inverted hovering.Man this is starting to get fun.The field i fly at is mostly plankers, most of them can hardly believe that a heli can do more than just hover.

JR parts?

Thanks for the post, I will have to have a close look at my CS clutch.... I also had the hex start adapter fail on my Ergo 50/ OS 50...after 3 gal~~I did grease it!!! It appears that the hex parts are all the same as my CS has the same hex part. I agree that they are FAR too soft..I replaced both of mine with the K&S "Strong Starter Coupling" part # 348-1000. So far ~another 3 gal. on the Ergo and no problems. I agree, considering the price of the CS kit there are certainly some disappointing short cuts......no wonder they aren't selling.........

I never like J.R.bearing !!!! I grease and clean all my bearing in the heli... But i put locktite (red) on the parts i don't what to spin, if the clutch bell and the top of the pinyen is spining in the bearing, then the bearing is not doing the work it is ment to do !!! that is with all my heli.... main shaft too...Yes i ate up my first clutch too, but i did not put it togather as it was someone else heli first (H.C.) When you go to rebild your heli, next time, BOCA make some of the best bearing i know of !!!

Vigor

Looks to me like that clutch to bearing fit will fail 100% of the time. Mine did it, too. Dimpling the clutch sounds like a good idea, and red Loctite should also help. The stock starter coupling is too soft, the KSJ upgrade is a lot harder material and will last forever. steve.

I bought my Vigor used from a friend, and suffered
the clutch pinion/bearing failure a few gallons later.
The instructions specifically say to use loctite there.
He didn't. I let him know about it ($100 in parts later)

Anyway, it's been fine since.

Karl,

I hate to argue, but the instructions mention nothing about loctite on the clutch bell to bearing fit. It does show using the stock green loctite on the pinion to clutch bell fit and pinion to upper bearing fit. Section 1-1 in the manual. Did you see it somewhere else?

Vigor Clutch

I also went over the instructions with a very fine comb and I could not see anything about locktiteing the bell to bearing. I looked to see if it was my screw up or they just left it out of the instructions. Never did find anything. From past experience with bearing fitment the bearing fit in the bell should be a medium press fit, souldn't need any locktite. I agree with the guy above this is going to be certain failure, just when.

Clutch bell

Both of my used purchased Vigors also had failures in this area. I fixed mine by turning the clutch bell bearing surface area down and then pressing on a sleeve I made from 6061 T6 and then turning the bearing surface on it to the new bearing specs. I used red Loctite on both fit areas. These two bells have been running for well over a year now with no problems. The next time I will try brass sleeves. This was the final fix for Suzuki crankcases that used to beat the bearing bores out of the cases. I think it will be even better! I'll keep everyone informed of the progress as fixes are needed.

Just to add....

I also had a clutch bell fail on me when I had the Vigor only after 4 months. The more experienced JR flyers told me to use loctite as well, but it's NOT mentioned in the manual.
