Blades, Night Flying and Painting > paint wont stick

I am trying to paint a fury with topflite Lustrekote. I started with white and let it dry for about 6 hours. It felt dry, so when I put the masking tape on, I tried pealing it off and the paint came off with it. The paint doesn't seem to want to stick, but I did notice that it stuck where I had sanded the seem. Should I sand the whole thing or should I not use this kind of paint.
I also bought the clear coat in a spray can. Has anyone ever used this before, and does it work very well?

Toadster,
Here is a link to the canopy-FX website:
http://www.canopy-FX.com/
check out their tips section, I used their method and have had good results. As for paint, I have never tried the topflite brand of paint.
Good luck.

Paint sticking

Before you paint any canopy, plastic or fiberglass, you need to sand the entire surface to be painted with 400 grit or finer sandpaper and then clean it very well with isopropal alcohol or another type of wax and grease remover. My own little rule of thumb is to sand and scuff until I cannot see any glossy or shiny areas anywhere on the surface I am going to paint. If you dont scuff it up really well, the paint wont have anything to stick to. It also helps a lot if you use a good primer before laying on your color.

Just a thought.

Toad,
That paint SUCKS! I've tried it before on a cowling for a plank. I was NOT happy with the results. The finish will not be smooth and you will probably have some runs.......... I would never paint such a nice bird with that paint. If there is a hobby shop close by, go get some Pactra raceing finish(in a can). Or go to a auto part store and get any color you want as long as it's laquer.... Paint it with that. Then take it to a body shop and have them clear it.
One thing that you have to remember is the resale of your heli.. If the paint looks like $hit then people will wonder the attn to detail you put into building the heli, and maybe you will not get as much for it...
These are just my opinions based on experience...You can take a look at mine in the members gallery. They were not that hard to do and I think they came out pretty good for a rookie..

Good luck, Merry Christmas!!

Helicopter34,
I used 3" masking tape, covered the side of the canopy. Then drew them, and used a razor blade to cut them out. Remved the areas that I wanted to be black. Painted with some black spray can laquer. Removed the rest of the tape, and thats what it came out like.. It took about 1hr to do both sides.
