| First, I just want to give a big thanks to all those here who take the time to post all the useful info that helps beginners like myself to have a greater chance of success with these crazy things! I've been lurking...
I bought a Raptor 60 about two years ago, but moving into a new house preventing me from ever getting it up into the air. I've been so busy, that I forgot about the Raptor and lost my motivation (and excitement) about learning this new hobby. Fast forward to last weekend when I stopped by the LHS for a peek and saw a BCP sitting on the counter. "Cool" I thought, but that was it- I didn't "get it". So of course, I didn't even consider buying the Blade, but I did buy a copy of Rotary mag and to my surprise it had a review of the the BCP. I then checked RunRyder and two days later, I was back to buy my own Blade!
I had put hours into G2 when I was building the Raptor, so it only took a couple of days on the sim until I was back where I left off: Good tail-in hover, wobbly nose-in, and very sloppy forward flight...but I was motivated again.
Today I had two sucessful flights with the Blade! What a feeling of satisfaction- to finally fly an RC helicopter! I've had a perma-grin all day. The first flight took place a local school with a gentle breeze, but it was enough wind to make things rough for me. I never lost control (maybe just a little ), but yes, it was much harder than the sim. The second flight was this evening under calm conditions. That made a huge difference and I was able to hover in place for several seconds at a time! Coooool!
I did the collective fix (thanks again), applied loctite to tail motor, and re-adjusted the tracking before flying today and did not have any control issues or glitches. I think I need to adjust the gyro pot, though, as I was constantly using left rudder. (Didn't notice this until the second flight)
Now I need to get some more batteries, because waiting hours for the NiMH pack to charge is not going to work. I bought a 900mAh Li-Po yesterday, but I'm not sure if I should use until I get some more time under my belt. Has anyone used a 730mAh Li-Po? It's still 11.1V, so it too, is going to have more performance than the stock NiMH, right?
