Has anyone put a 60 in an Ergo 46?

The Ergo46 will crack the frames fairly quickly with just an OS 50 in it so a 60 is out of the question for any long term use.

A proven fact

I was just wondering is it a proven fact that the 50 will crack the side frames where it bolts on. This is what I also read on rc modeler magazine june issue by John Benerio. The thing is I think that in order to put in a 50 size engine it has to be well balanced through out from the fan hub and the mixture has to be right on. I want to hear from others who also went throught the set up of the replacing the 46 to a 50,based on their expirience or trials and errors if any. I to myself is almost in the complete phase of slapping in a 50 size power plant in my ergo-46.

The Ergo 46 is a nice flying helicopter but it wasn't designed to withstand the power of a 50. The ergo 46 will have overspeeding problems also unless you install the long boom conversion. Add to all this the Ball bearing upgrades that are needed in the start shaft area and you have a 6 or 700 dollar helicopter.

I've got about a 1.5 gallons through my Ergo 50 Type 2. It has an OS .50 in it, that is just starting to break in. So far no problems at all with the frames. We'll have to see how it behaves in the long run. The type 2 came stock as a long boom. I run 600mm wide cord v-blades, and the stock gearing. At this point, I don't have any problems at all with the head overspeeding. Of course like Vance said, now I've got about an $800 dollar ship because of all the upgrades (metal tail housing, metal boom holder, many ksj purple parts.) She flies beautifully though.

I don't think you'd get much out of putting a 60 in it. It has plenty of power with the 50.

Lwnemesis & Deja_Vu

Hi & Hello,

Deja_Vu & Lwnemisis;

I am upgrading my 46 to a 50 size engine OS of course w/a Curtis MP combo. The layout of the heli is with a standard mix w/the carbon lower and upper frame I've installed the engine already w/the 10T pinion gear haven't flown it yet cause I am waiting for the bigger tank that will help the flight time on the 50,everything is on the upgraded side from KSJ head to the tail w/the 600 wide V-blades and 85mm sab tail blades. Deja_Vu based on your reply that you haven't experience any cracks on your ergo, how is the your ergo different from the standard ergo that is sold in the U.S.mainland and Lwnemisis I am hoping that your heli is about the same frame as to what I have the standard ergo w/the mods to it. Can you specify on the issue if its a satisfactory based on your experience w/uprading the ergo type1or 2...to the 50 I want to know if its ok or should I just see and wait kinda thing until I fly my ergo-50.

Thanks/John

Stock 46

I have the stock 46 with a TT50 and a Curtis MP on it and haven't had any problems yet. I have about 5 gallans through it. I haven't had any problems with over speed but I am not a heavy 3D guy but it flies great for what I can do(loops, rolls, flips).

no frame problems here

I have a standard mix Ergo50 with the long boom. I've run at least 10 gallons thru this machine and the frames are fine. Maybe the long boom makes the difference. Also I'm not flying 3D , just loops, rolls and stall turns.

Only major difference with the type II is the lower frames are redesigned to hold a bigger tank, it has a canopy that looks more like a vigor, and it came stock with the long boom. It is a CCPM model. It is basically the R-22 they sell here in the States, without the body.

No frame cracks here either. My Ergo started out as a standard mix 46 that went to a ccpm 50. I never had a problem with the engine or the frames.

Once we tried an OS 60 SX in the Ergo 46 and here is the conclusion:

DON´T WORK

To much power, you will overspeed the rotor.

But the Ergo 46 3D CCPM with the long tail conversion and the OS 50 is really a good machine, I sold this one because I want trie the new Voyager with the JR IMZ 50.

Regards,

Toto

Well, here's my thoughts. The Ergo is a long tail 600mm blade version with a lot of goodies. I want to put the R22 body kit on and fly it like it has power. Not wild 3D, just fly with authority. I have an OS61SFN black head that runs well but has about 30 gals of fuel through it. Compared to a 61WC this motor new, would be quite a bit less powerful. In it's semi-whipped out condition, it will probably make the power of a 50. I don't have a spare 50 for the project, but I do have the 61.

Quick question

I just finished setting up my second Ergo CCPM which I converted to the long boom and put a OS 50 in it with the 10 T pinion. I ran it for the first time the other day and it sounded like the headspeed was pretty high at half stick. For you guys that have had your Ergo 50's running for awhile already. What should the headspeed be while hovering? Also what blade pitch are you running at 1/2 stick? Oh.. and I'm running 605mm MAH blades.

I have mine set to 5 deg. at half but I think I need to bump it up to
6 deg. . Will know more once I get the training gear on it and take it out for more fine tuning.

my headspeed is the same in all modes, about 1700 with 600mm blades. I run the stock gear ratio 9.78/1. I hover at 3/4 stick which is somewhere around +5 degrees pitch. Works great for me
