e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > DD tail tip

For anyone who is wanting to upgrade the tail to DD, I recomend to get the EDP-50/H can be found here.
http://gwsparts.com/product_info.ph...products_id=265

For the prop size I recomend to get the 4530 prop when using the stock battery. If you plan on using the 3 cell lipo battery then get the 4025 prop. Its a lil smaller and should draw less apms. My friend and I have been using this set up on our honey bee CP and have been getting good flight without the motor burning up. I just though I share this with ya'll because the honeybee and blade is almost a like.

Has anyone determined if the HoneyBee and the Blade are using different tail motors?

Horizon claims that the Blade uses a different tail motor (N30) which they say is not as prone to burn outs. I have been using my blade with a 3S LiPo since day one (using the heat sink) and have not had a tail motor failure yet.

So I wonder if people are using 3S LiPo's without a heat sink?

Or is the HoneyBee using a different (N20?) motor?

Another point I notice is that if you dont fly the Blade from a very flat surface you may keep the tail rotor from spinning. For example if you try to fly from grass, the grass blades may hold the tail rotor from spinning until the heli lifts off. This places a lot of strain on the motor!

I always try to find a flat surface to take off and land on. If I can't find one, I place down something flat to be sure that the tail rotor is not hung up. This could be a source of tail motor failures.

Rich you are exactly right!

Loading the tail motor due to a stalled tail rotor can result in premature motor failure. Be sure to keep the tail rotor blade out of the grass, carpet or otherwise uneven surface that could stall it and you should be in good shape.

Previous Honey Bee models did use the N20 tail motors but some of the later models do also use the N30 motors. The difference for us is that we simply would not accept the N20 motors as E-Sky did and waited to release the Blade CP until we were confident in the tail motor performance (and other various things covered in other threads comparing the HB and BCP).

While not everyone has had the same success we and others have had with our tail motors, more people have had good luck with the BCP tail motors than the tail motor on any other helis in this class. That said there are always possible alternatives such as DD, but from the reports we have heard the motor life is not significantly better than with the stock geared motor when cared for properly.

For more info and tips on tail motor life, see the bulletin and tips page we have here:

The honeybee CP sure doesnt use the n20 motor. It's longer than the n20 so I guess its the n30. I maybe worng I had about 50+ flight on my honeybee before I swaped to DD. I ididn't even have a heatsink on it either and when I did the swap the tail motor was still good.

Thats a good point. Make sure the tail doesn't get snagged. It will burn up the tail faster.

LVRCFlyer
You are right the tail doesn't last any longer than the stock tail motor. I did the swaped because the tail had more athority with teh DD

i just ordered a ducted fan tail assembly; i'm hoping it will be a lot more reliable for this sort of reason.

Can you post a link to that ducted fan option?

I'm inpatiet.. so I ordered the stock motor with heatsink.

Can you post your reults of this setup once you have some flying time on it (+10hrs)?

Tail Fan Installation?

Do you have any idea how the weight of the ducted fan compares to the stock configuration?

I'm really interested in keeping the weight down but there is a lot to like with the fan.

With the fan on the tail the heli will be very tail heavy so you will have to mount the battery further up or cut the tail boom a couple of cm. It wil sound like a mini vacume cleaner. hehe

I am very interested in the ducted fan performance. I wanted to be able to take off and land in grass but am unable to because of the open tail blade. That ducted system looks like it would work great, but it does look heavy.
