JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Voyager 50 - Should I buy one?

I am going to purchase a 50 size heli; bored with my Raptor 30's and was strongly considering a Voyager 50. What are the opinons on this heli. What other items are needed beside the heli and engine, such as what muffler are you running? Did anyone replace the bushings with bearings, or is it unnecessary?

Thanks in advance.

You can get the Raptor 50 with engine, blades (replace them if you're into hard 3D) and muffler for $390. The TT .50 runs great. The Voyager kit is $500, and the parts will be more expensive. It is a nice heli, but not a great value, IMO. Yes, you get a fiberglass canopy and metal frames, but the parts cost is typical JR. Research the crash cost of the Voyager before you buy one.

The canopy is $56.99. That's $13 more than a Fury canopy.

Research the crash cost

Better research the parts availability. How many Raptors are sitting on the bench waiting for backordered parts. JR will keep you flying.

Crash Parts

I'm not too worried about the cost of crash parts. No matter what heli you crash, it's going to cost. I want a great quality heli that flies excellent and is ready for the 3D that I'm going to put it through. I've never really flown anything but Raptor 30's and a couple day ago I flew my friends new JR Schwitzer 30. I could tell a huge difference between the stable and solid feel of the heli compared to my Raptor.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Raptor and it flies very smooth. I will not get rid of it intentionally, but the way the JR felt was BETTER than the Raptor and I liked it.

The only thing I know about the Voyager 50 is that it has some bushings instead of bearing in a few areas. I need to know if anyone has replaced them with bearings and which ones they used. If not, does it fly fine with the bushings? How did the raw fiberglass canopy look? Are some parts shared with the Ergo?Any other tips, info, or pointers that can be supplied would be great! Basically, I don't know the part #'s to look up crash parts either. What is the cost of a: spindle, boom, etc for the Voyager?

Thanks,
Scott

Fly it stock you'll get a few hundred hours before any bushing wear out. If you are like me you will probably smash it to pieces before anything wears out. You mite want to change the paddles to fit your taste. I like the KSJ paddles in the back holes you get a vary positive feel. (That sounds a bit funny)

The less time I have the more I get done.

Hi all.. I'm about ready to go nuts trying to figure out what to buy.

I REALLY want a kit, but the 30 size ones are all ARF.

I've looked at the Voyager 50 and really like it's design and the fact it's not quite as large as a 60.

Is this thing to "hot" out of the box for a newbie??

6 months on G2 and I've hovered a Fury a friend has (nice helis, but pricey to fix)

budget for heli and motor is about 800..

Thanks for any advice.

The Voyager can be set up however you like, from tame hoverer, to full on wild 3D machine.

I'll agree with Squirrel. Mine out of the box with the stock paddles was really docile in aerobatic maneuvers. When I put the Sceadu paddles on...it really came alive. So for a beginner, the Voyager stock is a little better than a 30 because it is morestable and when you are ready for the wild and crazy 3d, it is at your fingertips. S-

Thanks for the feedback guys. I figured that it would be, but it NEVER hurts to ask around!

Just did some poking around and everyone in the states seems to be out of the OS 50 engines untill freaking mid October!

Finally figured out what I wanted and no one has engines.. jeez!

OS 50

Rich,
A hobby shop here in Houston has two on the shelf. Give Kingsway Hobby Shop a call at 713-266-7750. Ask for Ted and tell him I sent ya.

I am sure others have the .50 in stock but I KNOW this guy does....

Also, I have been very pleased with my Falcon SE V2. Basically you get a 60 featured heli in a 50 package. Check out my pics:

Is the canopy the same on the version sold in the Philippines. The US version has the mini Vigor canopy. The canopy sold in other parts of the world is pretty funky looking.
