e-Lite Machines Corona > HELP: Mounting bolts for Mega 16/15/3?

I'm nearing completion of my Corona 120 kit but have run into a problem while attaching the motor I purchased, a Mega 16/15/3. The corona manual says to use a 3mm x 10mm bolt with #4 washers, but I don't have two of them.

In my 4x40 bolt bag is a bolt that is 10mm in length and 3mm in diameter, but only one, so am I missing one? Also, when I tried to screw this bolt into the motor it became difficult after about 1 turn so I stopped since I don't want to strip the motor if it is the wrong bolt.

Can anyone whose installed a Mega 16/15/3 motor provide some help?

Thanks!

That screw must be a 4-40 screw if it only goes in about one turn. You need to get the right 3mm screws at a good hardware store or your LHS. The Mega motor should come with 2 - 3mm screws to mount it.

I thoroughly checked the box for screws but there were none included. I'll check out the hardware or lhs. Thanks!

Just an update, I went to a local hobby store today and picked up a bag with "motor mounting screws" that cost a buck. They were the perfect size, 10mm in length and 3mm diameter. Motor is mounted and now I'm adding the radio gear...looking forward to when it'll be in the air soon!!!! :-)

That's great! Glad you are getting it going. My Mega did come with mounting screws. Could be they forgot to put them in the box with yours. Can't beat a buck to get all the screws you need. It's a great heli to fly. You will have fun.

I just installed a 16/15/3 in my Corona. The box the motor was in, (from Roffee's), had a Post It on it saying: "USE CAUTION - When you mount your motor. May have to shorten or shim the bolts."

There were no screws that came with the motor. I had two, that I had to buy separately, when I mounted the Atomic motor.

I did cut the screws down. I couldn't use any washes, because the Mega is not as big as the Atomic. Washers hit the pinion gear.

Just curious, what kind of battery is your pretybird getting?

I want to use a 3cell lipo pack, but im a little afraid I might toast the 16/15/3.

You can run the 3cell pack with that motor. You should run at least a 45amp speed control. 35amp can burn out. Ask me how I know. It's not a bad idea to run a BEC too. More important if you run 4 servos than three.

35A will toast? Hows that possible? This motor is only supposed to go around 30A tops. Wont it overheat with all the extra volts?

And why would a corona have 4 servos? A bec could be nice though, I guess the cyclics will be a bitch on your reciever power.

All I know is that it happened to me and I have heard of it happening to others. As far as the 4 servo thing. I just kind of mentioned it because it isn't unheard of to want to use what you have on a CP heli someday. If you ever wanted to run a T-REX one day you would already have the motor and esc for it. You should use a heat sink on that motor. It will get hot. The bec would be more important on a T-rex with 4 servos.

Well if it possible that the ESC burns out, that means somehow your seriously overloading the motor, because it really cant go over 29A. So im not sure this is actually a good motor for it.
