I am ready to start night flying (I think). Everyone tells me it is easier for orientation but tricky to find the ground. How many people night fly?

It's a little unconortable at first but once you do it you realize it is pretty much the same. I feel I can actually see the heli better at night.

Ok I don't speak Texan good enough yet, what is unconortable? Is
that a cross between uncomfortable and uncontrolable?

You know where to find me Brian.

Hey Adam!

Whatzamatter? I've heard you talk before, you speak perfect Texan talk.
Besides, Brian probably wrote that post with only the lights in his room were the night blades glowing.

Howz those X-Cells? You keeping them warm during these cold days?

I finally got my GV-1 going in the 46 with the optical sensor. Guess I'm going to have to put one on the R60 too.

Chased any more plankers lately?

See ya,

Raymond

orienation lights

During the day, I would often get dis-oriented since I fly a small
EP Concept heli, with no canopy. (to save weight).
I found some ultra-bright blue, red and green LEDS. I have
two blue LEDS on the LEFT side, two green LEDS on the RIght
side and two RED LEDS pointing down and two RED LEDS pointing
backwards. It really helps me to see which way I am pointing during
my daytime flying especially when I get momentarily blinded by the sun or if I fly into some shadows. I then tried flying a dusk and also at night
under a stree light. The LEDS really helped on orientating myself.

Actually I am not using glow wire. I am using discrete light emitting
diodes, two per colour. I mounted the LEDs on a small piece of
perf board, and then used a piece of double sided tape to hold the perf board on to either side of my motor and the other remaining perf board
to the frame just below the tail boom.
