Hey guys! I have been doing some R&D on my DAG-1 autogyro. I have been trying to make it more responsive and have done so my coupling the direct pitch with the elevator. Originally, I did not use elevator....the horizontal stab was solid. the problem was that being the horz. stab. chord was so wide....when the gyro was flying, it would lock in the tail. In other words, the tail has to drop in order for the nose to rise. With the use of elevator, it climbs effortlessly. I have so much more control now. I have changed the plans and I am now in the process of changing the build guide CD.

The autogyro looks great man! Do you have the measurements on how much throw in the head and the elevator?

And I'm glad we didn't see any puke on the lens!

I did not measure and I am in the process of building a new one and have discarded the old fuselage. Of course I kept the mast and tail feathers. I would say that the tilts back may be 3/4" and down maybe 1/4". The elevator I would say up maybe 1 1/4" and down maybe 5/8". I dont need a lot of down travel. In a case of the gyro going into a heavy gust of wind and the nose go up....I just hit the down elevator to level off. In level flight....NEVER hit down elevator! You will loose rotor speed and drop like a rock. When I am ready to land....I simpl ease back the throttle...she will drop down nicely with a nose up attitude. I love these crazy birds!!!!

Sorry...I was not happy with my response because I was just guessing sitting here on the couch. So....I went to the basement, took the old fuse and hooked the servos back up and plugged in the reciever.

Up elevator: from nuetral 5/8" up

Down elevator: 1/2" down from nuetral

Go to my gallery if you want to see the bare bones. None of those photos have the elevator upgrade. But you can see the horizontal stab and you can picture the elvator cut into it easily.

Originally, I had designed the gyro for a static head @ 6 degrees and used the elevator. It worked well....but I wanted to use the direct pitch and never turned back.

My mistake.....never reducing the chord length on the horizontal stab. What was happening was it was large stab surface was locking in the tail and the fuselage was not responding well to the direct pitch input. To compensate....I added elevator. Done deal!!! That changed the flight charactaristics big time. I have TOTAL control now.

I will assure you all.....elevator and direct pitch makes for a VERY agile autogyro. I could not be happier.
