New & Emerging R/C Helicopters > Time to decide: Gohbee-50 Raptor-50 (HYPER -50 Engine)

Hello Guys!!! I would appreciate any input on the choice of buying either a Gohbee-50 with the Hyper engine or the Raptor-50 with the Hyper-50 engine. Both look like really good Helis so right now for me it's up in the air as to which one to buy.....
I will see what you guys have to say and then make my choice...
Thank You,
Maurice

Add one more thought to the mix, take a look at a Tiger 50 from Audacity Models with the Hyper 50, it's quite impressive.

Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would fall off.

Just get the raptor, been out for a while and easy to get parts from most places.

Maurice,
There is some good info on the Tiger 50. It is definately worth looking at. You can also talk to John at audacity, he is very helpful.

Tiger 50

I'm with flybarless on this one.... follow the theads here on RR... I have not heard from anyone that has been sorry about this choice...
Don't go with something just because it has been there for "awhile"....
This is the NEW KID and it is realy worth looking into... Check every magazine review also.... not one had anything bad to say...
Parts??? Audacity is in Florida......and a great company to deal with...
So do yourself a favor and take a look....

Good luck with whatever you choose... Stan

Which One

One of the guys I fly with has a Gohbee 50. He was nice enough to let me fly it and all I can say is if I needed a .50, I'd buy a Gohbee without and hesitation.

It tracks straight, flips and rolls great. He bought the green TT flybar paddles and installed them and it brought the model to life. It does fly good.

One thing I'd say the Gohbee has over the Raptor is CUSTOMER service. Gohbee is responsive to questions and provides quick answers. If a problem should arise, unlike TT, Gohbee will support their product ASAP. This is where TT can't come close is the customer support.

IMO, I'd buy a Gohbee because of the customer support and I believe it flies better. Considering I own a .50 Raptor, that should tell you something.

Actually, I've got all three! 2 Raptors, 1 Gohbee 50, and a New (3 gallons now) TIGER 50.

All I can say is, the TIGER is very SMOOTH. Very responsive or can be tamed way down. It's your choice right out of the box. Fit and Finish is better than the TT or Gogbee. The Milk Jug Canopy is as nice as the TT. The Gohbee is NOT. You will need a decent canopy, beleive me.. But, the rest of the TIGER is above average for sure! I'm sure that will get the same service from audacitymodels and they'll probably try and get a LHS to stock parts and kits if you let them know where your's is...
The Clutch shaft setup on the Gohbee is not very good.. The TIGER is like the TT. Perfect.

You'll get tons of advice in here, but please take a hard look at the comments on all of them... You may find the TIGER is looking pretty good. And it's an eCCPM machine to boot!

Good Luck in your choice

Got'm All!!!!

Hey Scooterpilot,

Your fleet looks something like mine!!!! And I would take it that you are willing to give a unit to try, just to see how it works.... I do this on a pretty regular basis too....

If the above holds true, do yourself a favor and try a Tiger..... you are going to have a ball with it....

Oh and one other thing........ SO WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR YS50???? I want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heli

Hey Stan,

How much flight time do you have on the Tiger? Is it set up for FAI or 3D? How's the Customer support?

The YS 50 was purchased from Cyberheli. They sold out the first day they were up for sale. Also, I'm on a waiting list from another vendor for another YS 50. Hope that one comes in soon.

Regards,

Time on the Tiger....

Hi Scooterpilot,

I have almost 4 gallons through it now, and it is going strong...
I have it set up for 3D, BUT even in this set up it is so stable it is hard to believe, until you give those sticks just that little extra push, and it really comes alive...
I am not a 3D flier, but this unit has me doing things that I would have never even considered with my other heli's.... you know, like; wonder what happens if I do this with the sticks??!!!!
And you are still in full control.... (well alomost!! )
It just builds your confidence the more you fly it and lets/makes you want to try different things with it....
And of course during the 4 gallons and "what will this do", I have broken it a "couple" of times, and the parts were all there so that I have not missed a weekends flying.......
And Audacity is looking for hobby shops to carry the line, so if you have a LHS that you use and tell them about it Audacity will contact them and set them up as a dealer with little or no hassles.... win win.....
I guess that you can tell that I really do like this heli.... I don't think there is anything that it wouldn't do.....
So is the YS 50 as good as all the other YS engines....???? I will build something to put it in.... might even replace the Hyper in the Tiger with one just for grins..... thanks for your info..... Stan

Doorman,
Do you have yours setup with the 3D seesaw, flybar, and paddles? I am just wondering if I should order those now while I will be in the building process.

Pro Upgrades???

Hi dbcaster

It all depends on how you fly.... If you are just learning then no they are not required... the stock set up is a very nice smooth flying unit that will take you from hover to FFF and even some basic stunts..... So if this is where you are, which I gathered from your other post about the servos (and I agree with you, but just make certain that you do have BB's on them) then stay stock....
You can order the extra parts and have them for later, but for now, until you are comfortable with the unit you will be just fine...

And, yes mine is set up with the 3D hardware.... and it is still a very smooth flying unit that is very stable in the hover, but it will rock and roll with the rest when you want it to.......

doorman,
I am at the stage of doing loops, rolls, stationary flips, piros, nose in hover, and I had about a 2 minute inverted hover today. I have been flying a Trex, so I am used to the fast response. I just don't have servos for a larger bird.

Servos....

I saw someone has 9202's in the electronics classified for $35.00 each... 3 of those would do it just fine for you....
With what you are doing I would go ahead and add the 3D pro parts... you will have no problem handling the heli.... you will also want to get some glass blades and Audacity has some the are not too expensive... I would go with the synetrical ones if you get them....
And you can use the 240 gyro with a digital to save a little$$'s too.... set it and forget it..... just a thought....

Looking forward to hearing how you like it after the "rex"!!!!!

doorman,
sounds good, I think I will take my 401 from my rex for now. I just need to get a 9252. I have a set of mavrikk G4's on the way and my OS 50 SX came today. I will look at those 9202's. I was thinking about the Hitec 525's because they are faster, but I haven't decided yet.

One more thing,
I am going out of town for a week so I won't be able to fly it for awhile. I will have all the pieces ready when I get back. When I was doing inverted hovering today I kept thinking man I can't wait to try the tiger. I just can not get the rex's tail to lock. That doesn't help much when learning. I ended up crashing blades first on my 5th hover. The one good thing was, I only striped a main gear.

Locked Tail!!!

With the Tiger and the 401 the tail will stay right where you put it... right side up or upside down... it stays.... and the linear throw gives it a nice comfortable feel in just normal FFF...
The 9202's are slower, but they also are none for the consistant centering and are very precise...(we use them on our Vario scaler's)
And with the 3 of them moving the swashplate and the amount of throw required for full range (60%) you would be just fine with them....
But I don't have any problem with using the High Tech's either.....

Good Luck and you are going to like this machine......
