Yesterday I orderd a Raptor 30 v.2 kit, Os32sxh, pipe, header tank, Futaba 7chp pcm radio sys with 3151 digital servos, futaba gyro 401/5294 combo. I also orderd the servo tail, mount and carbon pushrod. Is there anything else I should get for the build. I am a a newbe and am just starting out I have a raptor 30v.1 that is built and flying that I can use as a model to build by. Is there any upgrades that I want to include in the inital build statring out. Some one said I should include a head button I am not sure what that is . How much trouble is the kit should I send it back and get the almost ready to fly version? Anyone in the Houston Galveston, Pasadena texas area that has built one I could talk to. Any help will be greatly appreceated. wingride47@ev1.net Patrick Dupuis

Personally I feel that building the heli is the only way to do it! It makes it easier for you to find problems and such...so don't get the ARF

There aren't any needed upgrades out of the box. The Raptor is a great flying heli! The head button is a little button that sits on top of the head (hince the name) that makes it easier to slow the rotor down when you land.

Here's an example of what it looks like.

You replace your flybar seesaw with this part and there you have it...pretty simple "upgrade"

Have fun!

Also a good idea to get a metal washout base. Not expensive, and well worth what you'll pay

I think the kit will do you pretty well but personally I would have gone for the OS37 engine instead, it's definately got more power and worth the extra cash. Don't mean to put a downer on you or anything but it would be easier & cheaper to send the OS32 back and just exchange for the OS37 for a small price now rather than want more power later and have to buy it as well as the 32.

Definately buy the unbuilt kit though, you'll have a much better understand of how it works and how to fix it if you have any accidents.

thanks

Thanks guys you are right thats why i love this forum. I will trade in the the 32 for the 37 if they will let me and hopefuly they will. Both the head button and metal wash out look like a good idea also.

os37

Just talked to Kurt and he said no problems exchanging the OS32 for the OS37. He will send it today and I will get it on Friday with the rest of my order. Thanks for the suggestions and if you think of anything else let me know. The building starts friday night and will probably take sometime as this is my first helicopter to build since the mid seventys.I am going to take my time and try to do it right.

parts arriving it's cool how the little things thrill us

Well I am beginning to get excited now as parts for the new build are arriving. Been a long time since I have built a model. This is going to be Fun. After looking at the manual for the version 1 I have it does not look to intimidating. I say that now but I will probably be hollering uncle before this is over. Fourtunate for me I married a master technician that can figure just about anything out. I have decided to keep track of what it cost to build this kit As the invoices and product come in I will post the prices here and keep a running total. I wont name where I bought the the stuff just what and the price. If you see something that is way out of line I would apreceate a heads up. If you see something that is a good deal likewise let me know. What came in today:
loctite 242 Threadlocker medium hold .34 fl oz 10 ml $12.82
zap thin ca 1/2 oz $3.79
Raptor 30 rear servo mount kit carbon fiber with mount and rod$33.25
Futaba 401 gyro with a s9254 servo kit $182.00
Total with tax shipping and handling $255.40
Also if you notice I am missing some thing that I am going to need please let me know.

I picked up the tail mount servo plate as well...but didn't end up using it. The "factory" setup works very well...just use a little powered graphite and you're good to go.

I almost put on the tail mount servo, but then decided I didn't want that expensive of servo getting blanketed with exhaust! Lots of people use it and many of them swear by it...I haven't found a need to replace the original one yet...on my 50 I run 92mm tail blades and the tail is extremely rock solid. It stops on a dime after fast piroettes without any wag or over turning. I would give the stock setup a try first...if you don't like it by all means change!

The Raptor build is pretty easy and straight forward. One thing I will mention is that the length of the elevator linkage (the piece from the elevator to the middle pivot) is incorrect. If you use their setting you'll get interaction on pull outs and such. To find the correct distance take some micrometers and measure the distance from the elevator pivot to the pivot on the middle arm...that is how long your rod needs to be! Hope that made sense!

Here's a picture of mine before I fixed it...this is actually an "ARF" V2 so this is how it came from the factory...you can see that the arms aren't parallel...they should be...the red lines should be the same distance apart.

Good luck with the new heli!

I would build the raptor stock and fly it like that until you put it in (and you will sooner or later) and then you can start upgrading parts.

The best upgrade that you can buy from the beginning for the raptor is FUEL, and lots of it

Enjoy your new bird.

Well the rest of the parts have arrived I think I am all set to start building. What arrived yesterday:
1 Futaba 7chp pcm 7ch with 3151 servos $274.99
Raptor 30 v.2, kit 49bb upgrade, os32 and Maverick muffler $379.00
TTR Carry Master combo field box $129.00
os#8 glo plugs 2 extra $10.98
DBC Header tank set. $18.99
nitro tube set with 3 fuel filters stopper and retainer $7.99
That brings us to a sub total of $822.93
Then there is the OS 37 SZH Helli engine and head button with 2 day shipping $156.99
that totals $979.92
add in the $255.40 from the above post (401 gyro with 9254servo and carbon fiber tail boom servo mount) of items received Thursday
That equals a grand total of $1235.32
I will get $110.00 credited back to my account upon return of the Os 32sxh and I still need a glo pulg extender and some 15 minute epoxy and I am thinking that's all I need at the moment. So my conclusion is if you go out and start off getting into the hobby buying everything new as of this writing expect to spend around $1,130.00 not including fuel. I don't think these prices are to out of line as I shopped around before buying. So there is what your looking at new makes you want to find a good used deal doesn't it. I tried that too got a Raptor 30 and everything on E-bay Paid the guy and now he wont ship or respond. Don't let that throw you though the first E-bay Raptor deal I bought was excellent. My wife Marie bought all this stuff for me and I kept as close to the $1200.00 mark as I could. Thank you Marie Ill give up the birthday and the anniversary gift for this.
