Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > The new Hawk Sport...

I was just over at the Heli-World site and they have an announcement up about the soon to be released Hawk Sport. It looks like it's going to be an ARF only with 31 bearings at a price of only about $160!!

Talk about seriously undercutting the competition, I just hope they haven't skimped on quality. Probably not the machine to get if one wants to 3D the crap out of a 30, but at that price for a beginner, one could rekit the thing for less than most 60's crash kit. Or maybe just a secondary heli to beat the crap out of until it dies, rekit, and try again.

This will make a good crash kit that covers everything except your upgrade bearings

If you look carefully, Hawk IV & Hawk Sport specs. are almost 100% same, the only different I can tell is different color of muffler. ARF? I don't know about that, they say Hawk sport is a quick built kit not an ARF.
I also been tell by Century they just change Hawk IV to a new name "Hawk sport" then drop $60 to compete with other biginer models such as Shuttle Plus, JR Venture & Raptor. Are they making money? maybe for parts.

Compete against Shuttle Plus? Venture? Raptor?

I thought my Hawk IV at $220.00 did so very well as the US version of the Shuttle Plus is selling for $200 (glad to see that Altec has upgraded the US version to the ZXX swashplate, as the cheap plastic one in the "world" version is pathetic...) and the Hawk has a far better rotor head, better power system, comes with a better muffler and blades. Heck by adding the $22.00 ball bearing upgrade kit to the Hawk (for a total of $242) make it even better then the expensive ($370) Shuttle ZXX and adding the inexpensive 550mm Funkey FRP blades for only another $40 (for a grand total of $282) make it even better then the $370.00 Sceado 30 IMHO.

Ditto for competing against the $240 Raptor. Buy the time you add the CNC TT muffler that is similar to the muffler that comes with the Hawk IV the Raptor will cost $270.00. And one still will not have a heli with as good a clutch system, swashplate or rotor head as the Hawk IV.

As for the Venture at $270.00, this would have to be compared to the Hawk IV ARF. Here you will have to add a muffler to the Venture, this will bring the price up to at least $300! The last time I looked the Hawk IV ARF was only $249.00 and included the one piece CNC muffler! I helped a local with a Venture (he has already replaced the stock swashplate with the metal one from a Century Raven) and though it was fairly new it had already developed a lot of slop in the control systrem. So IMHO the Hawk IVagain has a far better rotor head and power system, dual boom supports etc.etc.

Note that at the current $220 price, in all three cases, the Hawk IV proves to be MORE heli for a LESS money. In fact, I have found the low $220 dollar price one of the things that made it hard for me to initially convince the locals that it was such a good heli. They all thought that it could not be better because it was so much less in price!!! Now with the Sport at $160 it may even be harder to convince people.

But for us who know better....as MobileRaptor said.....what a great crash kit
