I have been working on a friends phi and I have not been impressed. This was a new kit. Upon first visual inspection it looks to be a nice kit. G10 frames and lots of metal. We have been battling a vibration in the machine since it has been built. Come to find out the head was machined out of square. My friend called the owners and asked if they would be willing to replace the part and they said he could buy the new head for $200 and something dollars. They had previously replaced some other parts on the head that were out of tolerance but were not willing to make the head replacement. Since then he has bought a Raptor 50 and spent his time flying instead of trying to make his helicopter fly right. Another problem you will encounter is parts availability and support. I see no good reason to buy a phi when there are so many other possibilities out there.

After looking at their web site and the construction drawings the model looks very much like the old GMP legend. I guess this is good if you want spares to keep the legend going!

Looks very home made, with lots of trials and errors mods. Please do not install a 91 in this kit....may exploded.

Yes it is a retro of the GMP.

I wouldn't get it since I wouldn't have a place to get parts easily, i.e. Ricks or Heliproz. 2. It looks like it has a Fury tailboom and cs landing gear. What is up with those prices for the heli stands? $135-$299 thats crazy.

New PHI Heli Model

I was on the phone with PHI last week and they told me there is a new model they are about to put on the market. I have a Huricane and it flies real nice. These guy's bend over backwards to address any problems that I encounter with my machine.

Have one old one with aluminum frames and 2 newer ? with the G10 frames, all have .60's in them . I have only flown the aluminum framed one . It is fairly smooth but is 8 years old. Like my TSK's kind of obsolete due to lack of parts, support and anyone else flying them.

PHI Support and Parts

Parts are readily available and the service is very good. I've never had a problem getting help from them either.

DrlSgt - Try to find anyone that is flying them. The only reason I know someone else that flies one in So Cal is that my friend is a compulsive heli buyer, He lives in Irvine and buys everyones old helis. He bought 10 about 8 years ago supposedly they were going to close. I myself have quite a few helis that are no longer supported TSK, Kalt and PHI.
I am currently modernising my fleet and going Hirobo at least I will be able to go to the field and find extra parts. Also the assembly manual is a killer, mine was a text only sheet about 40 pages long, no hardware list and no pictures, they may have improved over the last 8 years. When I started looking at RR years ago they had a section for TSK's and PHI's, now they no longer have there own section, and are included in the "Antique" section. Mine does run smooth though.

Outdated??????????

GMP Crickets are old and outdated also but many many pilots fly them.
I have a Schluter Jr .50 that's old and outdated but I'd put it up aginst anything you have to fly and it would do very well. Just because a heli is old and out dated doesn't mean that it's not worth the effort to maintain and fly it. My GMP Stork is old but it flies very well. PHI heli's do fly well. It's a small company but they treat me well. I may be somewhat biased because I really love some of these old helis. I do have a couple of more up to date helis, an Excell .60 and a modified and upgraded Hawk Sport that I throw around the sky, but I still love the old ones.

PHI is under new ownership

Hello everyone,
I have talked to the folkes at PHI and have visited the facility. They have completly re-designed their helicopter and it's GREAT! I don't know how much longer it will take to hit the market. I think it compares very favorably to Vario and Bergen. I hope they bring it to the next show.

Very expensive outdated helis.. I traded for one a while back, but after looking at the parts replacement costs I sold it. I lost my a$$ on that trade too.

Parts

JoseAB That is part of the problem, I do not really have a supply of parts. That is why I am moving to Hirobo, Evo, Freya, Eagle. I guess I will just end up flying them till they wear out. Ken

Any news on the "new" PHI heli???
Who's the new owner, anyhow?
The website is old and outdated- some might say like the helicopter design...
