New & Emerging R/C Helicopters > I Broke My Tiger!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was out yesterday and having a "Blast" flying my Tiger.....
On the first flight of the day, I had to open the main needle a couple of clicks to stop it from going lean.... didn't think anything of it since the temperature and general conditions have been so differerent from day to day here in good old upstate NY....
Later in the day, I had to open it a little more.... temperature going up... again, OK...
Then it bit me......
I was at about 20 feet up in a VERY steep right turn with the nose high and getting ready to "dig" in the other direction...... and the engine just stopped dead!!!! So, in the next split second or so, got the heli flat, hit the hold and lowered the pitch to try to get the blades spinning a little, but just not enough room... and I planted it pretty much flat on the skids.... and then it started hitting itself..... all of this had to take about 5 seconds total from start to finish and it seemed like a week!!!
Needless to say, I broke my Tiger.....
Took it home Sunday night, made up the list of "stuff" that I needed, plus a couple of stock parts for the "box", and emailed it to Audacity...
John was on the phone to me today ( I think he asked me if I ran over it with my car!!! ) to confirm what I needed... I think he felt better when I told him I was just bringing in a little stock for myself... but the parts are on the way and if all goes well the Tiger will be back in the air this coming weekend... and with all of this, without the spare parts, the crash cost was about $150.00.... and this was an bad hit for this machine... not bad at all..... any other would have been, oh well lets buy another kit and keep the good parts left for the spares...
Boy did I get off the beaten path.. the bottom line here or the point that I was starting to make was PUT A FUEL FILTER in line from the tank... that little piece of "junk" got in the tank somehow and made it to the carb and shut me down.... I know this and have then on all my others but somehow overlooked putting one on this during the build!!!
So that "dumb a**ed" move cost me!!!!!!
Not the first or the last, but the support was as fast as it gets..... You cannot beat good service!!!!! Thanks Stan

FYI

Even with a fuel filter, I've had once or twice when I had to 'hunt' with the needle (low end), and was lucky enough to have someone experienced at the field. I removed the low speed needle, back flushed it, and that cured the problem. I don't know if it comes from the carb sucking in dirt, etc., but it's happened twice to me, and both times back flushing fixed it. Now, if I have to chase the needles, I remove and backflush.

I even checked the filter, and it was fine. Just a little bit to remember ...

Clean Carb!!!!

Thanks rtrickyjr,

That is just what I did during the fix..... but I actually pulled the carb and broke it down to make certain that I didn't see anything.... it is all clear now and running fine.....
But you are 100% correct.... the heli/engine will "tell" you when someting is wrong... all you have to do is learn to listen to it!!!!
In this case it was me having to change the needle setting.... which is very seldom required except maybe for a click or two for weather....
I just missed the signal this time.... "oooop's"!!!!!!!!!! And I am not even new to this!!!!
I am looking forward to burning a lot of fuel this weekend, and it sounds as if the weather may be breaking up........

Billy, hoping to get some flying pic's too!!!!!!!

EXCELLENT WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put quite a few flights on my Tiger and helped two friends get thier Tigers up and running.....
The more people that see this unit fly want one....
Several of our club members watched the first attemps with machines right off the table and were surprised with the ease that these were ready to go flying with.... simple straight forward set ups make for a GREAT flying heli...... I think that it is about time that they start to let us work weekends (at our weekly salary) and fly all during the week... now that would be fair in my book!!!!!!!!!!! But 3 days is still better then 2!!!!~

I agree, I built my kit in 3 hours. Very sturdy heli, it has taken all I have thrown at it so far even a wide open inverted crash, didnt even crack a frame, 45 bucks and i was back flying.

I don't know if "Built" is even the right word,
I would say I got the radio and motor installed in a few hours, and the rest has been just pure fun.
It has even held up to the uneven ground I fly from (tail blades scrape little dirt mounds once in a while) unlike my other "dinasaur" named machine (parts on order).
Whats even better is handing the transmitter to someone and listening to "WOW" comments.

Thanks to John and the Audacity Crew, what a great heli.

Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would fall off.
