I am installing a Millenium tuned Pipe on My Hawk IV unto a OS .32
I need to know if I should use the gasket that came with the original Pipe. I did not see one packaged with the millenium. Does it even need one? The docs do not address this. Also has anyone had any experiance with the best place to drill on the side frame for the millenium's mounting band? Anything to watch out for when mounting this pipe? And last but not least... are there any adjustments to do to the engine VS the new tuned pipe. The engine has ran cool power 30% and now has it first gallen through it on the standard pipe. Any advice on these issues would be greatly appreciated from you Hawk Drivers out there.

Thanks

millenium pipe

Medic, I fly the Millenium pipe on my Hawk with an OS32F running 20%. I never had a gasket on mine, but if you have one you can use I would install it. Mine always drips. I drilled a hole in the back corner of the frame that wraps around top the fuel tank. Picture looking at the left side of the heli and look at the top right corner of the tank from that orientation. Use that small strap of frame that wraps around the top right corner. There's not much room there, but I was able to make it work with a small diameter screw (think I used an 8-32). Be careful to position the pipe so that it's at least 1/4" away from touching anything, especially the tank or the frame, as it will get very hot in operation. Also be careful handling after flight - I've burned the crap out of my hands several times. When mounting the pipe to the header with the silicone coupler I'd put them 1/8-1/4" apart. It's been a while since I ran a stock muffler so I can't give you an exact needle setting, but you will definitely have to richen it up a lot. I'd start off opening it up 1/2 turn more then your current setting and start tuning it from there. It will want to run a fairly fast head speed with this pipe, otherwise you will find it "falling off the pipe." This usually becomes apparent on a descent when you're trying to bring power back in to arrest your descent. If you encounter this it will feel like the engine is less responsive than normal and doesn't want to accelerate. Be prepared for this until you can get everything dialed in to eliminate this. Overall I like the pipe, but it does require much more tuning than a standard muffler. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm running a millenium pipe on a Hawk SE OS32SX.

But, It was like that when I bought it used. So I have no idea whether or not there's a gasket, the header has never come loose on me. Mine leaks too, but it takes a couple days to leak. So I just put the heli on a stack of old newspaper when I'm not using it.

I had problems with the rubber interface and pipe coming loose, but that was fixed with a cheap aftermarket tuned pipe coupler usually used to rc cars. The old rubber interface was old and rotting out.

What else? The pipe puts out alot of power compared to the century mufflers. Needle settings were about the same, 4 clicks richer on high speed, low speed was 1 turn richer. I really like the pipe as it really gives that little extra boost of power that's needed, however I can't compare it to other pipes.

I didn't have any problems about lagging power (compared to OS32 with century muffler). BUT, there definitely is a point when you can hear the pipe kick in, it will literally sing.

As far as the gap goes, I didn't really pay attention to how much gap I have between the header and the tuned pipe. Just make sure you have a gap, otherwise, you will get radio interference.

I usually run a high headspeed this is prolly why I didn't notice the lag in power.
