Alright corey, The long awnser is: The piccolo isn't very stable and uses a motor for the tail so it's not to stable for much either. If you want to fly backwards or just practice, it might not be able to handle a HH gyro very well. Also since it is so very small, outside with any wind is a no-no, and i've heard that even inside it's pretty unstable. But it's big enough that your bedroom probably isn't big enough to do anything in, so youll have to find a proper place to fly it in (maybe a school gym, I think your in school right?) Also if you want to do any kind of loops or rolls, youll have to fabricate (I don't know if anyone makes one yet) a CP upgrade whitch will cost you more money.
So the short awnser is, NO.
A Hornet on the other hand, has a CP upgrade that is buyable and a tail driven by the main gear. I know its able to do some mild 3D as I've seen it done before.
So if you were gonna get something like this (although for the price it's a rip) the hornet would be the way to go, Im sure that the piccollo can fly fine, it's just im not too sure of its capabilites. These little micro machines cost alot of money, you could buy yourself another raptor.

Don`t bother !! If you are learning to fly (we`re all still learning) then the Piccollo is pretty tricky to fly. IMHO electric heli`s arn`t worth the hassle unless you go to top money Logo etc with top money motors etc.
all the above IMHO.

The piccolo was fun for about an hour and then it was a quest to find better batteries. I enjoyed the little heli but the flight times were not near long enough.

Unless you have a clean flaw to look for the head bearings that fly out and a big area so when it does that thing all picolos do eg the pico circle you have enough room to get it down.

DON"T

You said the ms was bad well i disagree its great!

Anyway stick to the 30-90 class much more fun and who said you can't fly petrol indoors!

Don't buy it! Take the money you would throw away on the Piccolo and buy fuel with it. I had one and it was fun at first but you get really tired of charging batteries all of the time and replacing batteries. Trust me flying around in your house is not that much fun or easy unless every room is the size of a two car garage with no chairs, tables, plants and cat's or dog's. So Buy fuel, Buy a flight Sim, heck buy some shiny purple parts for your helicopter but stay away from the Piccolo.

I may be in the minority but I had a blast with my Piccolo! I actually wish I still had it. But I do have to say it is NOT easy to fly!! But I also have to mention that it is was my first helicopter and it is what I learned how to fly with. Try and firgure that one out! So it is not impossible to fly at all.

If you have always flown nitro, then it may be a good thing to help you get your "fix" on the bad weather days. But you may also be disappointed because it is not as exciting of a machine to fly as a nitro.

But you can make it fun and exciting... I flew mine in my den, would land on top of furniture, try and scare my dogs, whatever to have fun.

One good thing about it compared to the Hornet is that the Hornet is more fragile than the Piccolo. I flew my Piccolo into the wall, refrigerator, stove, furniture, etc. and 90% of the time all I had to do was straighten everything and re-attach the battery and blades/head. It was almost indestructible! But I did have to order parts a couple of times but most of the time when I crashed, nothing broke.

Go ahead and get the larger NIMH battery and a nice charger for it. You will enjoy it a lot more. I was getting 5 minute flight times and mine was completely stock.

You need to check out the Ikarus website bulletin if you are really interested in getting one. It has so much information on it!! Plus it is a great place to find a used one for a lot cheaper than buying new. And if you have a question, ask it and you will get plenty of answers in no time.

Good luck!!

Corey,

I just read your second post where you mentioned you hated a Hornet you had. Why did you not like the Hornet?

Because the makes me think I agree one of the other guy's post that said "if you hated the Hornet, you would hate the Piccolo". That is probably very true.

Both are two different helicopters but they have a lot of similarities also. They are both a lot harder to fly than a 30 size ship and require a lot of "fiddling" to get them to hover. But I enjoyed all that so it was not a problem for me.

If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail me.

I didnt like the hornet beacause of a couple reasons. It had alot of problems in the tail,(for me), The carbon fiber tail boom broke REALLY easily, everytime you crash, you bend some thing, like the tail drive shaft, and then massive vibrations would come. The swashplate separated on me a couple of times in mid air,But i was luckily enough to bring it down, everytime, And for some reason, every time i hit the ground kinda hard, the skid legs break and come out. After a while, it became a giant ball of glue. But luckily, i traded it for a raptor with alot of things in it.

I agree, if you hated the hornet you will uterly and completely dispise the piccolo. It sucks to fly and is very very very tricky on set up. If its set up poorly or even just pretty close then it flies like crap and forward flight on the piccolo? What forward flight it becomes unstable as heck! The hornet is a cool heli and it takes some deterimination and motivation to keep it flying, but when it comes to flying, the hornet kicks the piccolo's tail rotor all the way downwind!!

Snellflight Hoverfly

I have never flown a piccolo but I had a hornet for about a year. Very fun little heli but requires alot more skill to fly than a 30 size nitro. If you are looking for something to fly indoors to just goof around with you might consider the hoverfly (not to be confused with the POS hyperfly). It runs on a very thin tether line so flight times are unlimited. It is pretty stable once you get out of the ground effect and it is practically indestructable. I fly mine in my living room which is approximately a 12x12 area with no problems. I can even manage mini stall turns.

Corey,

The Piccolo may not be for you after what you said about the Hornet and your dislikes. The Hornet actually flys better, when properly setup, than the Piccolo. So if you didn't like the Hornet, you won't like the Piccolo either.

I really enjoyed mine but I took it was not very easy and I spent a lot of time "fiddling" with it. I think it took me about a month before I even got it to hover nicely but I enjoyed learning how to fly it because it was a challenge. And it was really rewarding once I really learned how to fly it, especially in small places.

If you learn to fly a Piccolo really well, you can fly anything!! It is hard as hell to fly but like I said before, I had a blast with mine!!! You really begin to learn how to "feel" how the heli is reacting. It is pretty neat, but takes some patience.

I am not going to tell you not to get one, but if you didn't like the Hornet, you won't like the Piccolo either. They are small, fragile, finicky little helis that require a huge amount of patience. But once you get it, there is nothing like flying a helicopter through your house and landing it on your breakfast room table!!!

Good luck,

Brooks
