OK guys, you have to indulge me. After a hiatus from the hobby for many years I bought a Piccolo and POS GWS "Dream Starter" combo from a local hobby whop. Needless to say, the whole experience has left me a bit hollow.

Well now things are starting to look up. I have en route:

Ark X-400
JustGoFly 400DH
Castle Creations Phoenix 35
SAB 280mm blades
JR PCM9XvII (99% 9303 for you guys in North American)
JR R700 mini PPM receiver
Futaba GY401 gyro
4 x Bluebird 371 servos
Reflex XTR sim

WOOHOO!!!

Now for a few questions:

I need some batteries. It seems like the Thunder Power 3S 2100mah are the hot ticket. Should I just bite the bullet and drop some serious cash for those guys or should I consider something else?

What kind of connectors do you guys like? Deans seem popular, I'm just unsure as to which size to get. Suggestions?

Where can I read up on LiPo battery care? I know there is a minimum voltage at which they should no longer be used but I don't know anything about storing them, discharging them etc. I've got a Schulze 6-330d so I should be set from a capability standpoint, I'm just unsure about exactly how to treat these batts.

Many thanks in advance.

I use Dean "T" plugs for the ESC/battery connections. For the motor/ESC connection I use the Deans mini 4 pin plugs, Saves on the room.

LiPo care- Lots of different info floating around but in general I do the following;

1. 3v cutoff per cell on the ESC (so on 3 cells it would be 9v).
2. First 5 cycles go easy on the amp draw. ie don't go crazy on the throttle.
3. Short term shortage (ie 1 week) just leave them after running. I rarely fly until the cutoff.
4. Long term shortage. Discharge to 3v per cell and then chare 50% capacity.

So far so good!

You have a very good list there!

Hi Aaron,
Sounds like you have a good combo coming. As for Lipos there has been much information published. The Thunder Power Web Site has complete instructions there regarding charging and usage. The new TP Pro Lites seem to have better voltage holding capability than the older generation 2 which I was using. I have never had any problems but I have a proper Lipo Charger and charge outside in a metal can. Deans Ultra connectors work fine for me.

I would use the align bullet plugs on the motor, not mini-deans. The bullets have more gold surface area which will reduce the amount of loss across the connector.

Yes, you probably are right about the Deans mini plugs, but it was too much of a pain doing the routing with the bullet connectors!

So we're talking these guys:

for the battery/controller connection and bullets for the controller/motor right?

I can't seem to find any Dean's connectors that have provisions for all three wires...

@ Gary Hoorn

I'm also looking for the latest TP batts without any luck. Do you know who sells the very latest?
