I'm assuming this would work fine.

my walkera 35 has different type of front gear. It has a conical shape. This gear has round shape. My gear is designed similar to the hornet that it sits on the big main gear. The one you showed is shogun design and it meshs with a brass pinion.

is your front gear different than mine?

I just got a little #35 also... didn't see this post here so i started my own (closed it)

My little one gave me alittle trouble... The transmitter was broken almost identical to what shell said. Although i didn't have to change mode1 to 2.

My tail is still giving me trouble... But atleast its flyable now.

I bought a few 860mah TP packs on ebay for practically nothing... and it seems 10C is not enough... or i just have the load way to high... my packs burn out in less than 10 seconds... and it'll plop back down to the ground.. let it cool for a few and it'll go for 10 more seconds. The batt pack gets mighty warm, but within limits. Still have to play around with the pots to get it just right i assume.

Anyhow.. i love my little #35. Great deal, great little heli... when it does fly it handles really well. Collective is really nice.

Figured I'd post an update on the status of my #35

Was totally disappointed with the gyro so I upgraded to a GY401 on my T-Rex and put the Align one on the 35.

Removed frame mounted rudder servo

Added a MAXXPROD MX-52 super high speed micro servo and mounted it on the tail using some cheap tail mounts about an inch behind the gyro.

Cut the existing rudder control surface to accomodate the significantly shorter distance to the servo.

Conclusion
No more tail problems.

I've got a spare Align 400LF brushless motor I'll be replacing the stock one with as soon as the stock brushes burn away.... suspect it won't be long.

Hey Everyone,

I have been replacing components on my Walkera 35 while at the same time waiting for my Shogun V2 to arrive in the mail. I've replaced the rear bevell gear, and foward crown gears. I have also upgraded to a Walkera 3200kv brushless motor, Phoenix 25 electronic speed controller, and Hitec micro 6 channel receiver. Believe me, the motor has plenty of power to get the helicopter, in fact it even picks up too fast (could be the soft start or the high hover throttle setting).

However, the new steel or aluminum crown gear wears out really quickly, in fact it did not even last 10 minutes. I never had an issue with the crown gear wearing out with the brushed motor; with the brushless it's a major issue. The motor pinion is even getting chewed up!

With my Shogun V2 inbound (I am deployed overseas at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan), should I waste the money on a belt drive? I have seen the belt drive on Helihobby's site that reportedly is the same as the V2 for $64.99. However, I have also heard rumors about the belt being a bit too big for the stock tail boom and causing too much friction.

Yup... same basic problem here. Have pretty much reserved myself to replacing the front crown gear once every 10 or so flights. I ordered the "blue" one from MicroHeli the other day. Curious to see how much longer it'll last.

I also noticed that Jeremy at RCHover has one that is supposed to be stronger than MH's "blue". Might check it out too.

I've seen the belt conversion kit go for as little as $60 from a couple eBayers. Holding out till I can read about some experiences first.

What sized pinion did you use on the brushless setup? Did the Walkera motor come with one or did you have to press it? I was thinking about trying the 9 or 11T pinion that came with my T-Rex once I get around to swapping out the motor.

May I recommend #35 / Shogun Belt Drive Upgrade.

I bought one the other day and it arrived today. If you scroll down to the bottom of this guy's auction (I've ordered from him a couple times and he's fairly kosher) you'll see you're getting a bit more than just the belt upgrade and it comes in bling blue!

With shipping I was able to pick this up for $62

Not sure whats happening with your tail gears. I've got over 100 hours on my 35 and the third set is still going strong. I would still be on set #2 if i hadn't crashed the tail. I lowered the verticle fin about 3/8" to protect the tail rotors from ground strikes which helps tremendously. I leave the rear gears slightly loose and CA the shaft to the front bearing, the shaft tends to wear at the front from slipping inside the inner race and creates gear alignment problems without glueing it to the inner race. I check frt/rear gear mesh about every 10 flights and adjust as needed. mine just don't seem to wear much and i'm using the 400dh brushless motor.

I think the repeated burning out of gears has to do with bad meshes. The only time I've ripped mine has been during excessive ground contact maneuvers.

Still doesn't change the fact that I want a belt driven tail. The mod quoted above works... but requires quite a bit of um, work, to get everything lined up.

Have a pinion puller and pusher ready. A dremel will help speed things up too as there are a few places on the frame that require "adjustment".

I'll post pictures just as soon as my server is back up (I had a raid array fail two weeks ago).

Go for the HB ESky CP 2, better quality than the Walkera brand.

You can use Google or Yahoo to find a good deal for the esky cp2 - example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=esky+cp2

I bought a second hand #35 from someone here on RR, and "upgraded" mine with the parts off that one. Lo-and-behold it still had the same issues the seller was having. Turns out the pinion was a 10tooth for a brushless.... waaaaaaaaaaay to big. In the process of changing out pinions... i discovered the motor was toast... so i bought a HIMAX 2025/4200kv brushless, and used the stock walkera controller.

Fly's like a beauty. All the frustration and troubles are gone. I use my 1900mah pack, 1100mah pack that came with MY kit. I also use a 2200mah pack that came with the "RR" kit.

I get around 14 mins of flight with the 2200mah, and relative times with the smaller packs. I will most likely get longer times than this, after i finish tuning her up with the stock transmitter nobs (pitch).

I would recommend the #35, but to only a some what seasoned pilot... its not even remotely close to RTF (even the 100% rtf isn't close).

:-)

PLEASE HELP! I don't really understand the collective pitch

Its probably your headspeed Binky. That stock brushed motor rapidly looses its oompf. If you're still using stock radio, have you tried adjusting the pitch and throttle curve knobs?

If you are applying Tail rotor input to compensate for the torque and the heli is still spinning try switching the #4 dip switch on the back of the TX.If the positive angle of the the t/r blades increases when you push up on the left stick, the servo direction is good to go.

Run it like you stole it!
