e-Miniature Aircraft Furion - Razor - Ion-X > Gyro for Ion X

I need a gyro for an Ion X and am deciding between a GY401 or GY601. I am a sport flier and would like to eventually progress to mild 3D. I don't get much time to fly so my progression is slow. Is the 601 worth the extra money for my type of flying or should I stick with the 401?
Thanks

Stick with the 401

Use the 401 until your good enough to notice it's not holding like you want it to. The 401 will carry as far as you want to go. Unless you are competing in FAI F3C you probably wont need a 601 at all. Don't get me wrong, it's a rockin gyro, but for most of us it is just not necesary.

Besides, the 401 wieghs less, makes for a cleaner install on your bird, and is as close to plug and play as you can get. At around $200 for a GY401 w/ 9254 you simply can not go wrong.

Happy flying this year.

Ed
the 401 and 9254 are a good combo and Cheap!!! I asked my self the same question for about 6 months so i took the plung and bought a 601 for my one ION . I am on the tail piroutting alot and have been working on backwards flight alot and that is were the 601 shines as far as set up if you are running a 9c or higher futaba radio it is easier to set up then a 401 IMO
Now my 2 IONS and myExtreme all run 601's

Hope this helps

If you have to ask this question, then the 401 is probably the best that you should put on a heli. Otherwise you won't notice it.

The ION is a 90 sized helicopter and you don't have any real weight problems. The only time that a 401 might not be the best (considering this flight skill) is when you are flying a micro and weight is an issue.

Get the 601 if you can afford it. Once you've flown one - even with intermediate skills, there's no turning back.

Yes, I have to ask the question because I have not flown the 601......a little hard to make a comparison without that.

My advice..

Ed,
I have a 401, 502 and 601.

I currently have the 502 in my Ion and LOVE it!
I ran the 401 till I got this 502 and it was good also, but the 502 just seems to lock in real well no matter what.
For instance this past weekend I was hovering downwind out over the ocean with 20+ MPH winds.
The 502 held that tail REALLY well. In fact I was able to even fly backwards into the wind without much correction.
Course this was all slow forward flight and hovering as it was on my camera ship.

I think the 502 on the Ion holds as well as my 601 does on my Extreme.
However it is probably not going to hold fast backwards as well as the 601, but that is servo related IMO and not so much the sensor.
