Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Predator Shaft Bearing Spacer HW6045A

As my missing frame parts came in and I proceeded with assembly, I have noticed that for steps 42 and 44, in the manual, the mast thrust bearings, there is not Thrust bearing spacers in the kit.

Have they been omitted from the kit, or my I missing more parts (Oh Joy !) ?

Also the auto hub spacers M10 x 14 x 3.5 mm (#HW6054) which is shown in Step 39 and goes on the Auto Hub (and therefore called the Auto Hub Spacer). Is it suposed to "float" inside the lower bearing cavity ? Any inputs on that one?

Thanks

Nick

thrust bearing spacer

The thrust bearing spacer is no longer used. They do not come in the kits anymore, they have not removed them form the manual yet. the spacer for the auto hub sits on top of the lower bearing and the auto hub rides on it. If you need any assistance you can give me a call at
(407) 729 6717 or nextel Id 162*4099*331. Name is Rodney. I own 3 pmaxs and have built 7 so far. They are great flying machines.
The manual is not very good when it comes to setting up the heli. Feel free to call so you dont get anymore discouraged with your century product. When completed you will find it to be a very strong and stable heli, with unlimited 3D ability.

Geez, I was on this very step of my Predator gasser build last night and stopped because there were no thrust bearing spacers. Are you sure they're not needed?

I did a search on here about this and a lot of people had complained of missing them but no one mentioned that they're not used anymore.

James or Steve, can you verify this?

I don't know where you guys are hearing this at, but you must use the spacers inorder for the trustbearings to do their job...

Here's a picture of mine. I've seen that spacer several times today. My kit was ordered around November last year and it has the spacers. I'm currently trying to build a second one and it also has the spacers.

spacer and bearing (It's the black thing.)

I can't remember if I used any of the extra shims shown above it or not. When I took this picture I was trying to get the gear mesh on the tail set up and I yanked out the main shaft several times testing different amounts of shimming. but the spacer definitely IS in there.

Thats right, but you only have to use one on each TB....Its a spacer, but it allows the thrust load to be transfered to the TB..If its not used, then the load goes back to the radial bearing inter race... One thing though, if they have changed the ID of the TB to clear the race of the radial bearing race, then you good to go...I'm waitng on someone to confirm this...

Well, those spacers (they are suppose to be cupped) are not in the kit.

Good question for century to answer.

Thank you for your offer to help Rodney.

given that their manuals basically suck, dont you think
they could have at least created an addendum sheet?

I disagree about their manuals sucking. I've not had any problem with the manual and really have been surprised at being able to easily find the parts I need in the bags. The only exception is the thrust washers and the locknuts for the removable pull-start which are both missing. The locknuts were no problem, I just went to Ace and picked them up but can't do that with the thrust washers.

As far as the parts bags, although the bag numbers are not mentioned in the manual, everything has been easy to find, much easier then my Hawk Sport and it did have the bags listed.

An addendum would be nice however. They do have a link on their main page though that lists a few changes, but no mention of the thrust washer.

I think the manual is average.

I really like the Thunder Tiger manuals and the JR manuals.

My Vigor CS manual is/was amazing. Nothing left to the imagination.
Same with my Raptors. Excellent.

The Century needs some work. What would be nice to have at each step would be a list of all parts required, and their bag locations. (i.e. HW6023 hex bolt bag A). They have the bags numbered already so it should not be a big deal to do.

Some better pictures would also go a long way.

Cupped spacer

That is the part everyone is talking about? If they are suppose to be in the kits, then the last kit we sold @ lhs. Those parts have been missing. The part number in manual I have, it comes with the thrust bearing CNBB1018T. They call it a special washer. That cupped washer no longer comes with that bearing is what I was told.

Yes. Its the cupped washer. It has to be cupped or else, if it was a regular washer it would shift and not distribute the loads to the bearing correctly.

Billme stated previously on this thread, that there may have been a change to the bearing design (?? I am not sure I got this right), that does that load distribution without the need for the cupped washer.

washer

Well when I asked about washer coming with thrust bearing set, maybe I miss understood them when they said it is not used. They meant it doesnt not come with bearing, but they did not tell me it has seperate part number.

Any inputs on this one ?

It seems that the part is either A. Missing or B. Not Required.

Does anyone know what it is ?

Need this item

I have two gassers one with and one without. Called Century, the answer was it was not needed. Whats up? Send em to me.
The manual does SUX. Absolutely no set up for the heli at all. what pitch? what curves? What head speed? James Fleming was all the help I got.

Once again James (AGRAV8) to the rescue !

Thank you James.

Called Century and got the parts ordered.

No problems this time. (i hope !)

I am hoping this is it, for missing parts. Then again, I wont know untill I complete this Heli.

The bad thing is that I already assembled the mast without them.

Seems easy enough to get them on without tearing everything apart.

yeah

its easy. Pull the autohub locking pin, remove the 3 CCPM to the swash connections, drop the lower lock collar, your there.

Antonio is aware of the need for the spacers. Hopefully he will convey that to the rest of the C.S. team members. If in doubt, call and ask for him.

I have an idea (note this is MY idea of why, and don't have any basis for suggesting it is the reason) why they might have stopped putting it in the kits. It consumes a linear on the mainshaft that causes the brass spacer below the autohub to be sanded down if it is in the carbon kits. This doesn't effect the metal kits. It is a difference in the frame slot heights. Anyway, just a speculation. It needs to be there...if not, then why bother with the lower thrust bearing if the load is transferred to the inner race of the lower bearing, right??

I know it is of little consequence to you guys that have already gone thru it......but I hope that the buildup video (and manual revision that follows it along with the tips you NEED to get it going) I am working on will answer as many ???'s as possible. The engine tuning/setup section SHOULD be able to get you dialed in and running well. I might have a seperate DVD made just covering setup and engine operation for those guys that have already built their machines.

I talked to Peter about this a few weeks ago. He has offered to let me put a "trailer" DVD in with the predator kits.....gas and glow. I gotta get it done and off to my editor. Was hoping for Mayday I'd have something to show off......its getting iffy on that now. Might use Mayday to get some extra tuning footage with Bill and the guys.

Just so many hours in the day, guys. Family life too....but I'm trying to provide all the help I can to you.
