Yeah Baby,

I will be flying my Avant this weekend for sure. The weather is suppose to be 60degs and sunny Saturday and Sunday. This computes to "Beat My Avant" all weekend long!

Anyone else flying their Avants this weekend? Post here on how your Avant is flying this weekend.

My AVANT has just been "Off da Hook"!! "Mega Insane"

Avant Fun Today

Oh Yea!! Great day of flying...... 5 tanks and a lot of great practice.

When Steve comes back from CA. on Tuesday he has a professional video camera. We are going to try and get some video flying the Avant doing some of the great fun I have been having. The weather here was perfect. It was about time for a good flying day. Tomorrow is suppose to be great also, so I will be out in the afternoon again.

Today I added more Backwards Rolling Circles, Death Spirals and some Piro Flips. The machine was very predictable and stable. Beautiful funnels down near the deck. Forward cyclic Point Tumbles were in the dirt! Overall a great day of flying with good friends.

Neil you were looking really good out there today!

I'm jealous for 2 reasons... One, because you had awesome weather today... (35mph gusts here today) and two, you own an Avant. I can fix two though...

But seriously, congrats on the flights today. Sounds like you did great... It's sweet when the weather and the flying mesh together to make it just an awesome day at the field.

I "flew" my Avant. I had the rudder reversed and was trying to land it. to top it off it pulled really bad to the front and to the right. i had it two feet off the ground when a blade hit the dirt. I forgot to compensate for the really bad pull that it was doing. needless to say i feel like an ass right now. If this a sign of how my season is going to be then this really sucks. both blades are gone, spindle, shaft, blade grips, tailboom, flybar, paddles and my confidence is shot to s@#$. oh, and the canopy too.
what a way to start the season. at least i still have my fury to fly until the avant is up.

It can take a crash well. At a glance nothing from the avant kit broke only the canopy. I have to say though the ground was damp. When I picked up the heli the blade that didn't break was dug in about half way. None of the metal landing gear supports broke, the frame looks same as the day that I built it, none of the head mod addons broke off. Also this wasn't a full on nose or tail in dirt dart. It happened from about 3 feet up in normal mode. i think the way that the frame is built and supported with all the spacers helps alot. I may not have been the first to fly the Avant but at least I can say I was the first to dork it or at least man enough to admit that I dorked it.

Carcrasher,
Sorry to hear of your mishap. It sounds like the Avant parts really survived well. I am glad. It is a very strong machine.
Hope your back in the air soon. If you need any help on setup tips feel free to call me or PM or if you just want to talk about it.

Man, Avant is really a kick ass machine. I am new to helicopter, and the first hover with Avant is really an eye opener. The one pound diet and the head modification really works. Now, can I have more kits please? Try it and you won't regret it!

...well, I got through only a couple of tanks while run in.
It was a stormy wind, but I felt Avant as if it was my hand, very responsible in pitch, with almost 0 inertia. Very different feeling comparing with other helis...

Sounds great guys. Keep up the flying and let us know how it is going. I am still making changes here to my setup trying different things to see how it flys. When I am done I will post what my final setup is and why I like it. It really rocks but I am trying to get the optimum performance from the machine for my style of flying which is a combination of Hard 3D and precision manevers as well.

Mine just arrived

My Avant arrived today. What a beautiful piece of work. The canopy is much stronger than I thought and the metal parts are shinny shinny...

Is there anything I should look out for in the assembly?

Mine arrived middle of last week and started assembling it over the weekend. The hardest part for me in the assembly was to get the pins out of tail drive gears. I was not able to budge the pins using an allen key, probably my allen key had too much flex. I eventually ended up using a fine nail setter to drive the pins out.

Also I changed the pinion gear from 12T to 11T to get the 8.45 ratio for my YS. After changing there is a lot of play between the main gear and the pinion. Is this normal for this gear ratio?
