e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > 3Dpro Main rotorhead wobble

Anybody else see a slight wobble in the head at low speeds or when turning it by hand? Mine does, but, seems to go away as the headspeed goes up. Doesn't seem to cause any flight problems, but, I'm no expert. It's done this right out of the box. Would hate to have gotten a bent shaft or misdrilled head right out of the box.

I noticed this on mine too, and decided to ignore it because it is such an inexpensive heli.

That's what I wanted to hear. I guess. Was hoping it wasn't the guy that rolls the shafts on the table, to check for straightness, sleeping on the job.

The main shaft is slightly bent. I have the same problem's because I tip it over or crash it. THe main shafts are really wussy, just like the elite's. Ive gotten mine straitened back but not perfect. You can tell if your main shaft is bent while hovering it the air you can see the vibration on the skids. :/ sucks becasue the mainshafts are $10

Well, that's a bunch of crap! I haven't even got to crash it yet. Century, at least let me crash it before I have to start replacing poorly manufactured parts. Don't suppose they care?

mine has the wobble too but it smooths out once up to speed

You can check to see if the main shaft is bent by pulling it from the heli and rolling it on a glass table. You'll immediately see and feel if it is bent.

Are your blades balanced?

Don't know if they're balanced. There's a piece of tape on the end of one so I assume they were done at the factory. The blades are tracked though. The wobble can be seen just by turning by hand, so, it's not the tracking. As ozace said, mine too smooths out when up to speed. It's definitely either a bent shaft, or the hole in the head that the shaft goes into isn't true. I don't even want to take this thing apart already. Like I said earlier, either the guy that checks the shafts at the factory has only one eye, or he's completely blind.
Century, I will check them for free for you. Just mail them to me, I'll roll them on the table, mark the bad ones, and send them back to you. My only charge for this service will be one straight main shaft.

Hmmmm....usually they only put that piece of tape on the one blade for tracking purposes. I would double check the balance just to be sure.

Heheh, I like your proposal to Century!

They seemed alot more responsive before I bought from them. Now that I spent my cash with them and am having problems, can't get an email back. I did call and talk to someone, but, he said, if it flies ok, it shouldn't be a problem. Then I found out how many others have the same problem. Gyros don't like vibes, correct? Guess I will just fly as is, unless Century will send a new one free of charge, until someone makes a titanium shaft. Maybe if I bitch on here enough........Didn't work with MS though

Nah, gyros don't like vibes. But, if it's holding ok, I wouldn't worrry about it.

Finally got an email response from Century. Looks like it shouldn't be a problem getting a replacement. Hopefully I will be posting some kind words on here about their service soon.

Just took the shaft out. Thought maybe it was just the end that was bent. It pretty much looks like this )
Gonna take one of my hornet shafts to work and see if I can't drill and cut it to the same length. Man! That shaft is weak. I would have spent an extra $10 for the kit to have a titanium or even stainless steel shaft in there. Not really sure what it's made of. Looks like a piece of solder

what are the specs of the hornet main shaft?

This is what I got for the 3Dpro shaft
3.330 long
.475 between bottom 2 holes
2.535 between top hole and the top bottom hole
.200 to middle of bottom hole from bottom end of shaft

The hornet is the same diameter + or - .001 It measured about .116 to .117
The hornet shaft is longer. It basically just needs the 2 bottom holes drilled and then cut to length.
I went ahead and mailed the bent shaft in for a replacement, but, I'm going to have one of my hornet shafts drilled and cut for future use.

Alright, Century, fast turn-around on that main shaft. One problem, rolled it across a glass tabletop and guess what, the new one is bent also. I am just going to straighten it out myself. Sure hope someone makes aftermarket shafts for these.

P.S. The free offer to check those shafts for you is still on the table.

What else can we do? I'm not sending this one back hoping to get a straight one. I'm not even sure it isn't the same shaft. I'll check when I get home.
