When I put a load on the XRB like full power climb etc I get a sound like a gear whine. I have checked the pinion and drive gears and they look OK and the mesh is the same on both are notchy when turning a click at a time but smooth when rotating (always been this way on the tethered unit). I havent been able to isolate the noise it doesn't seem to affect flying, anyone have a similiar problem?

Growl

I have found the noise to be more pronounced when turning the nose to the right. I may be looking at a early notice of motor failure. I will keep flying until it fails. I fly about 2 hours per day 4-5 days a week so I've got about 250 hours on the set

CapMax, i changed both motors when it seemed like i was losing power after allot of use. I also replaced the foam with carbon fiber blades so i figured i needed some fresh motors.

I have many many hours on my tethered model. Compared to my wireless SR, it is whisper quiet! Make sure the pitch is adjusted properly and it will sing a tune.

Make sure your mesh is dialed in. You don't turn the gears to check mesh. You hold the motor pinion tight so it cannot turn, then wiggle the main gear back and forth against it to check for play. You want just a little play in the high spot of the main gear.

High spot? The main gears are unlikely perfectly round. So first you need to find the high spot on the main gears. So turn them (while stopping to check mesh properly) until you find the place where mesh is tightest. Mark this spot on the main gear with a sharpie so you always can set and check the mesh in that spot. After you find the high spot, set the mesh.

An occasional drop of oil on the bushing of each motor (tethered only) where the shaft exits, will do wonders for noise & motor longevity.

I bought new motors for spares and have yet to need them.
